Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of Hoan Kiem District People's Committee Trinh Hoang Tung said that this is the only flower garden in Hanoi with a statue of José Martí (Cuban national hero), a regular destination for Cuban delegations every time they come to Hanoi. At the same time, it is also a place to organize friendship events between Vietnam and Cuba. This is also one of 13 flower garden renovation projects in Hoan Kiem District, assigned by Hanoi People's Committee to renovate in the period of 2021 - 2025.
"As a project of great significance, symbolizing the Vietnam - Cuba relationship, this place will be a place to educate the tradition, spread the great cultural and ideological values of the hero José Martí to the majority of the capital's people, and at the same time, inspire the symbolic relationship of the Vietnam - Cuba era to the young generation of Vietnam, who will continue to nurture, build and develop this relationship," said Mr. Tung.

Speaking at the ceremony, Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen thanked the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem District, engineers, architects, authorities and workers for giving the park a new look.
"The park is named Tao Dan, but for many years the Cuban people have called it José Martí Park and are happy that more than 15,000 km away from their homeland, the Cuban people still have a place to pay their respects to the Cuban national hero. At the same time, they hope that the park will become a meeting place, not only for the Cuban people and those who love the common history between Cuba and Vietnam, but also for all Latin American brothers," said Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen.
