The "beauty queen" of Nghe An highlands owns an impressive list of achievements.

In the 2024 high school graduation exam, Mac Luong Ha Anh, a former student of class 12C1, Nghe An Province Boarding High School for Ethnic Minorities, excellently achieved 29 points in group C (9.5 in literature, 9.5 in history and 10 points in geography).

Ha Anh has applied to study International Relations at the Diplomatic Academy. She believes that this major will help her accumulate new knowledge and hopes to return to her hometown to work in the future.

Ha Anh is the eldest sister in a Thai ethnic family in Tuong Duong district (Nghe An) with both parents being civil servants.

Ha Anh said that since her primary school years, her parents often took her to remote villages in Tuong Duong district to give gifts to children in difficult circumstances. Occasionally, her parents also let her stay to experience the lives of children in remote places.

“The locality where I live has more than 85% ethnic minorities such as: O Du, Kho Mu, Tay Poong, Mong, Thai and Kinh. Life here mainly depends on agriculture, with many difficulties.

Every time I go with my parents to give gifts, I feel so lucky and I encourage myself to study harder so that in the future I can help disadvantaged children," Ha Anh shared.

The experiences with her parents in volunteer activities helped Ha Anh gain more motivation and accumulate more practical knowledge.

While still in high school, Ha Anh passed the entrance exam to Nghe An Province's Ethnic Boarding High School. From a remote border district, she went to Vinh City to study. Overcoming the difficulties in the new environment and homesickness, Ha Anh always tried hard and achieved many high achievements in her studies, actively participating in many activities of the class and school.

Gold medal and special prize at the World Invention Olympiad WICO, held in Korea.

Third prize in the provincial Science and Technology competition with the project "Self-study issues of students in ethnic boarding schools in Nghe An province".

Ms. Nguyen Khanh Ly, homeroom teacher of class 12C1, Nghe An Province Boarding High School for Ethnic Minorities, said that in addition to achieving many high academic achievements, Ha Anh is an active student in extracurricular and volunteer activities at school.

In 2023, Ha Anh participated in activities with the School Youth Union to donate school bags and ballpoint pens to Vinh City Youth Union in a charity program in the highlands of Con Cuong.

Notably, in 2023, Ha Anh and two other male students brought brocade woven from banana stems and pandan leaves to Korea to compete in the International Science and Innovation Olympiad. This creative idea won the gold medal of the competition.

“Banana stems and pandan leaves are abundant in Tuong Duong and are often thrown away, so we came up with the idea of ​​turning them into fibers to weave brocade. Some people have already experimented with weaving brocade from banana and pineapple fibers,” Ha Anh shared.
