Faced with the rising price of container shipping services to Europe and America, the Ministry of Transport has just sent a dispatch to the Vietnam Maritime Administration requesting support for businesses.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Transport requests the specialized State management agency of maritime to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies and units to ensure a smooth seaport system nationwide;

Facilitate the transportation of import and export goods while researching and immediately implementing solutions to improve the efficiency of exploiting maritime infrastructure.

The Ministry of Transport also requested the Vietnam Maritime Administration to speed up procedures for entering and leaving ports and loading and unloading goods for ships transporting import and export goods, especially containerized goods to America and Europe;

Urgently work with shipping lines with routes to America and Europe to call for and attract shipping lines to maintain routes, add seats and containers to Vietnam, to meet the demand for freight transport.

The Vietnam Maritime Administration needs to study policy mechanisms to attract container shipping lines to open new routes to Vietnam; continue to urgently study the reduction and simplification of administrative procedures, especially those related to ship operations.

Previously, since the end of 2023, due to conflicts in the Red Sea area, shipping lines had to change routes, not going through the Suez Canal but going around the Cape of Good Hope, making the ship's journey 10 to 14 days longer than before, incurring a lot of additional transportation costs.

In Vietnam, the freight rate to ports in the Western US region is 2,650 USD/40-foot container, to ports in the Eastern US region is 3,900 USD/40-foot container, to Europe is 4,900 USD/40-foot container (according to the price quotes of some shipping lines).

Therefore, the Vietnam Maritime Administration has also issued a document assigning the Maritime Port Authorities of Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City, and Vung Tau to coordinate with maritime branches to work with shipping lines with service routes to Europe and America to assess fluctuations in shipping prices, transportation situation, and the ability to supply ships to the market, while also inspecting and supervising the listing of shipping service prices and surcharges outside of container shipping service prices in accordance with regulations .
