In recent days, parents and students in Ho Chi Minh City have been stirred up by the regulations of Thanh Loc High School (District 12), specifically prohibiting students from using cell phones in school.
Speaking to a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Luong Van Dinh, Principal of Thanh Loc High School, said that the school has a rule prohibiting students from using cell phones, even during recess.
This rule has been in place since early September, but it does not prohibit students from bringing their phones because after school, many students need them to book a car or call their family to pick them up. Otherwise, students are not allowed to use them unless their teachers allow it.

Explaining this regulation, Mr. Dinh said that when phones are banned, students have time to communicate with each other, and also have time to exercise and develop physically instead of just waiting for recess when all the students are focused on their phones, not communicating or chatting. According to Mr. Dinh, because of phones and social networks, students do not use them properly, so some students take advantage of them to do bad things.
Last school year, there was a case where students talked badly about each other online, then made an appointment outside school to resolve the conflict..."The school held a meeting and all parents agreed to ban phones. After that, the school organized a group activity, explaining to more than 2,000 students the harmful effects of using phones in the wrong place and at the wrong time," said Mr. Dinh.
According to Mr. Dinh, teachers in the school are also encouraged to limit the use of phones for personal purposes. However, for both teachers and students, the ban on phone use is not rigid.
"For lessons that require the use of phones, if the teacher suggests and shows it in the lesson plan, the school will still accept it, and students can also use it with the teacher's permission," Mr. Dinh shared.
Since the previous school year, Truong Chinh High School (District 12) has also been a school that has a regulation prohibiting students from using cell phones in school with the aim of creating a healthy communication environment and increasing physical activities for students...
Mr. Trinh Duy Trong, Principal of Truong Chinh High School, said that after one year of implementation, the school received positive feedback from parents and students.
However, Mr. Trong believes that the ban on cell phone use is not strict at all, and that it is still acceptable for teachers to use cell phones in class. "The school even encourages teachers and students to make full use of the advantages and power of technology to improve the quality of teaching hours..." - Mr. Trong said.
