Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Nhung, owner of HA NOI CORNER restaurant (Hanoi Corner) talks with Nhan Dan Newspaper reporter based in Cambodia.

“Partly so that the image of Hanoi will always be present in our hearts, partly so that Vietnamese people living in Cambodia or foreign visitors can stop by here when they remember Hanoi. Even though it is just a small corner, I hope to bring back memories of Hanoi to Vietnamese people in Cambodia in general and Hanoians living and working away from home in particular,” Ms. Nhung shared.

Taking advantage of visiting her family a couple of times a year, Ms. Nhung said that she is always amazed by the new, spacious and modern appearance of the capital. Even if she wants to visit the streets she has experienced, sometimes she cannot go by herself and has to rent a car.

“The infrastructure is so developed. As for people, I thought that because of modern life, people might not be as friendly as before, but that is not the case. Once when I visited Hanoi, I could not remember the way, but when I asked a policeman, he showed me the way in detail, and even called a car to take me to the right place.”

The woman in her 40s said that the lives of Hanoians have improved a lot compared to before. Many families still maintain the cultural lifestyle as well as the gentleness and privacy of the old Hanoians. In particular, the elderly are well taken care of and children have better learning conditions.

Together with the Vietnamese community in Cambodia, in recent days, Ms. Nhung has actively donated to support compatriots who have suffered heavy losses due to storms and floods in her homeland, especially in the northern mountainous provinces. According to her, Hanoians and the people of the whole country in general are always united, demonstrating the spirit of self-reliance in all difficult times.
