On January 13, Ho Chi Minh City Police said that, regarding the case of a referee of the Ho Chi Minh City Football Federation being assaulted on the football field of Phu Tho Sports Training Center (Ward 15, District 11), District 11 Police have stepped in to investigate and clarify the incident.
The male referee was beaten by a player who is the director of a company and fell on the soccer field.
That was referee Le Tuan Kiet (32 years old, from Long An). The person who assaulted Mr. Kiet on the football field was player Nguyen Hong Quang (42 years old, living in Hoc Mon district), director of a company in District 11.
Previously, on the morning of January 10, a video clip was circulated on social media reflecting a beating incident that occurred at the football field of Phu Tho Sports Training Center, so verification was conducted.
On the afternoon of January 11, Mr. Kiet also went to Ward 15 Police Station to report the incident. According to the report, on January 3, Mr. Kiet was assigned to officiate the match between Quang Ngai Business Club and Celadon An Phu, part of the Online Business Football Tournament.
The match took place at field number 3 of Phu Tho Sports Training Center.
During the match, referee Kiet blew the whistle to penalize a player from the Quang Ngai business team. Immediately after, some players from this team reacted to Kiet, in which player Nguyen Hong Quang used his hand to hit the referee in the face, causing him to fall to the ground.
Upon receiving the report, on January 12, the police invited Mr. Quang to clarify. At the police station, he admitted to beating Kiet as above. At the same time, on the morning of January 12, the Investigation Police Agency of District 11 Police took the male referee to the Ho Chi Minh City Forensic Center to assess the injury. The police are continuing to clarify the case.
