On Vietnamese Family Day (June 28) this year, ECUE, with the support of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), will organize a discussion on “Gendered Spaces and Decoding Gender Inequalities in the Family and the Workplace” in Hanoi.

According to the Organizing Committee, in modern society, work space and family space are being envisioned as two separate spaces.

Giải mã các bất bình đẳng giới trong gia đình và nơi làm việc

Family values that appear in the company are considered unprofessional, professional values that appear in the family are considered cold.

However, both spaces are being defined by the same implicit structure that defines women's roles as caregivers at home and support at work; while men are breadwinners and leaders at work.

This gender bias has led to gender inequalities such as women doing 3 more hours of unpaid care work per day than men, while men only do 1 more hour of paid work per day than women (World Bank, 2022); the proportion of women in corporate leadership is less than 30% (CGEP, 2021).

Despite efforts in policy, education, media, and even law, these inequalities remain unresolved because gendered structures in the workplace and home persist.

Therefore, with these discussions, speakers and delegates together learn and discuss gender mechanisms in the workplace and at home, as well as open up cultural and legal approaches in promoting gender equality.

ECUE is a social enterprise, supporting businesses and organizations to promote diversity and inclusion, gender equality, non-sexual harassment, integrity and other human rights values in Vietnam.
