Tet flight ticket prices continue to stay high

Recently, many Vietnamese airlines have announced early sales of flight tickets for Lunar New Year 2025, ranging from January 13 to February 12, 2025 (ie December 14 to January 15 of the Lunar calendar, year of the Snake).

Accordingly, the higher the peak season, the more expensive the airfare will be. For example, the round trip from Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City, flying on January 28 (29th of Tet) and returning on February 2 (5th of Tet) is from 7 million VND (including taxes and fees). In which, tickets of Bamboo Airways and Vietnam Airlines are from 7.3 million VND (including taxes and fees).

The prices of niche flights from Ho Chi Minh City to the Northern and Central provinces are also very high. For example, a round-trip ticket from Ho Chi Minh City to Vinh is about 7.3 million VND; Ho Chi Minh City to Hai Phong is from 7 million VND (including taxes and fees). In general, domestic ticket prices for the Tet holiday are 4-8% more expensive than last year. According to information on websites, there are currently no "sold out" flights, the number of tickets is still quite large.

Talking to a reporter from Cong Thuong Newspaper, Mr. Le Ngoc Hung (Dong Da, Hanoi) said that he has been "hunting" for flight tickets since he heard about the early sale. He chose Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa) as his travel destination for the Lunar New Year because this is a tourist destination that attracts a lot of tourists, so Mr. Hung needed to book his flight tickets as soon as possible.

“For example, if you fly Hanoi - Nha Trang from the 28th of Tet to the 5th of Tet, it can be very expensive, ranging from 4-6 million VND/round trip. That’s not to mention the whole family traveling, so the airfare during Tet certainly won’t be cheap,” Mr. Hung shared.

According to airlines, the shortage of aircraft is expected to put pressure on the ability to provide flights during the 2025 Lunar New Year. In addition, to buy cheap air tickets during the peak Tet holiday, airlines in Vietnam recommend that customers book tickets as early as possible to choose from a range of ticket prices from low to high; refer to ticket prices on the airlines' official websites in advance to grasp the general price situation; and should not buy at online addresses with unusually low prices.

To contribute to reducing pressure on domestic airfares due to market supply and demand factors, since the beginning of 2024, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said it has implemented synchronous and effective solutions to ensure and stabilize the air transport force to provide appropriate and balanced loads on domestic/international routes and markets, well meeting the air travel needs of passengers.

It is known that the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs has proposed a 9-day Lunar New Year holiday, starting from Saturday, January 25, 2025 to Sunday, February 2, 2025 (ie the end of January 5, At Ty year).

The 9-day holiday will create conditions for tourists to travel for a long time or take a 3-4 day trip after celebrating Tet with their family.
