Although the price of green vegetables has decreased compared to about a month ago, it is still quite high and selling well. This has motivated farmers in Ha Tinh to increase production to serve the market.
The price of green vegetables in the markets remains quite high.
According to records, for many months now, the prices of green vegetables in the markets have remained high. Some main types such as: mustard greens range from 7,000 - 10,000 VND/bunch; chrysanthemum greens from 7,000 - 10,000 VND/bunch; tomatoes 25,000 VND/kg; Malabar spinach 15,000 VND/bunch; green onions 25,000/kg... The prices of these vegetables have decreased slightly thanks to the recent sunny weather, the supply has started to be more abundant but are still quite high.
Ms. Le Thi Hoa - a vegetable vendor at Ha Tinh City market said: "At the beginning of the season, due to heavy rain in the production areas, the supply of goods was limited. The prices of some main winter vegetables such as: cabbage 20,000 VND/bunch; tomatoes 30,000 VND/kg; green onions 30,000 VND/kg. Currently, the source of vegetables is more abundant, so the price has decreased but not significantly."
The long-term high price of green vegetables has become a driving force for local farmers to increase production to meet market demand. In the 2024 winter-spring crop, the concentrated vegetable, root and fruit production area in Quyet Tien village, Dong Mon commune (Ha Tinh city) mainly grows kohlrabi, cabbage, cauliflower, and radish. To take advantage of the season, people also intercrop short-term vegetables such as mustard greens, chrysanthemums, onions, and coriander.
Ms. Tran Thi Hai, Quyet Tien village said: “My family has 1 sao, knowing that winter green vegetables are always valuable, so every year I work hard to cover the area. In addition to kohlrabi and cabbage that need 3 months of care, I intercrop short-term vegetables such as mustard greens, coriander... to sell regularly. At this time, every day I have vegetables to harvest and bring to the market to sell, retail price from 7,000 - 10,000 VND/bunch of cabbage. At the same time, I also take care of cabbage and kohlrabi to prepare to supply the upcoming Tet market.”

According to farmers, the weather at the beginning of the winter season is quite favorable for sowing and production, but recently there has been a lot of rain, many heavy rains, so farmers have to cover 100% of the area with plastic, both to avoid crushing and to prevent damage from rats. In Ha Tinh City, although the agricultural production area is small, it is a central urban area, so the consumption market is quite good, selling at a good price. Especially for vegetables, tubers and fruits produced according to VietGap and organic processes, many times the gardeners "run out" of supply due to high market demand.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Giap - Thanh Sen Youth Cooperative said: "The cooperative has 5,000 m2 of greenhouses to produce vegetables, tubers and fruits according to organic standards. The products are mainly imported into the agricultural product stores of the city and the province. Currently, we are harvesting tomatoes (price 30,000 - 35,000 VND/kg), cucumbers (30,000 VND/kg), cabbage (45,000 VND/kg), higher than similar products on the market from 10,000 - 20,000 VND/kg but still welcomed by consumers, even during the rainy season, when green vegetables are scarce, the products are not enough to supply".
People in Hung Dung village (Duc Tho town) often alternate crops and produce winter vegetables.
Good weather makes the atmosphere in vegetable fields of other localities more bustling.
Ms. Le Thi Ly, a vegetable producer in Hung Dung village (Duc Tho town), said: “This season, my family grows 300 square meters of vegetables such as: sweet cabbage, herbs, lettuce... Short-term vegetables, quick crop rotation, so we have a regular income. I am taking care of the vegetables to sell to serve the Tet market. If the weather is favorable, after deducting expenses, my family will earn from 7 to 9 million VND in this year's Tet vegetable crop.”
Duc Tho farmers are taking extra care of their vegetable growing areas to prepare for the Lunar New Year market.
According to farmers, from now until Tet, the amount of green vegetables will be more abundant, the price may also be "softer", but thanks to the Tet market, consumption will still be guaranteed so that farmers can rest assured to continue the crop.
