As Tuoi Tre Online reported, many students said that parking fees at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine (HCMC) are more expensive than parking in shopping malls.
According to readers, university parking lots should not charge such high parking fees, especially for medical students - who stay at the school for up to 6 years.
Some people suggest that parking should be subsidized or free because the tuition fees that students pay at the school are already very high.
There are already stable customers, why still charge high parking fees?
Reader Tran Van Van suggested that the school board reconsider posting parking fees for students at no more than 5,000 VND/day.
“Our children study at the school for six years, and there are many students who go on to higher education. There are already a steady number of customers, but the parking fee is too high. Is it possible to collect all the profits?”, reader Van shared.
Reader Trung Quang thinks that this is a school, charging high parking fees is not suitable for students.
"As a former student of the school 10 years ago and now a lecturer of the school, I find charging parking fees like that unacceptable for a medical university," BS account expressed.
Continuing, reader Tung gave an example of taking the bus, which only costs 3,000 VND/trip, and a total of 6,000 VND for a round trip. Meanwhile, the parking fee at school is up to 10,000 VND, not including gas and travel expenses.
"Is it really reasonable for the school to use the excuse of not exceeding the ceiling?", reader Tung wondered.
Claiming to be a student of the school, the account sinhvieny shared: "The parking fee for 4 hours is 4,000 VND, but usually a class schedule is at least more than 4 hours. I hope the school will change soon!"
According to reader Ha An, the parking lot is on school land, students have paid tuition, so there should be no parking fee. However, to protect students' property, it is okay to pay the security team.
"But that's okay, it's not a commercial center's land so we don't have to charge hourly. We can't let service providers bid too high," reader Ha An commented.

Don't over harvest
“Students are not business objects to calculate prices like external services,” said reader Nguyen Minh Tuan. According to reader Cong Bang, we should not exploit students, especially medical students.
Agree, according to reader thie****@gmail.com, the school and the parking lot operator should reduce prices for students, not rely on regulations to exploit.
“The fee according to regulations is the maximum fee. The parking lot splits the hours to optimize the collection of fees, while the parking lot has no roof, leaving the cars exposed to the sun and rain,” this reader was upset.
Reader Chang commented: “The school’s tuition is already high, but why do they charge high prices for basic support like parking for students? Let’s learn from other schools that have more reasonable tuition fees and still provide free parking for students.”
Lang Thang account raised the question: "The price list is clearly posted every day, why does the school have to wait for the press to speak out before working with the parking lot again? When bidding for the parking lot, the school certainly knew the pricing plan. If the school just bids for the parking lot at a reasonable price, there will be a reasonable parking price for students."
"I think there should be specific regulations on parking fees at schools. Schools should not be allowed to overcharge students by applying the highest amount of the regulation," reader Khoa Pham suggested.
"If parking lots require student ID cards to park, they should charge a low price like the bus fare or even free of charge," reader Tan Luan added.
