Cage fish prices in Kien Giang increase

People raise fish in cages in Son Hai commune, Kien Luong district (Kien Giang).

A survey of some households raising fish in cages in Kien Luong and Kien Hai districts showed that the current price of commercial cobia at cages ranges from 190,000-210,000 VND/kg, an increase of 50,000-60,000 VND/kg.

Pearl grouper is 180,000-190,000 VND/kg, an increase of 65,000-70,000 VND/kg. Yellowfin pomfret is 140,000-145,000 VND/kg. Star grouper alone has decreased from 480,000 VND/kg last year to 410,000 VND/kg.

Ms. Tran Thi Hoi - Director of Thanh Hoa Farmers' Service Cooperative, Nam Du Commune (Kien Hai) owns 28 cages raising cobia and grouper of all kinds, said: "The price of commercial fish has increased because this year's hot weather has caused a 50-80% loss of farmed fish, causing a sharp decrease in supply to the market. The price of fingerlings has also increased by 45-50%, but the supply is very low, causing difficulties for farmers, such as grouper fingerlings, which last year were only 15,000 VND/fish, now have increased to 22,000 VND/fish; cobia fingerlings are currently priced at 30,000 VND/fish, an increase of 10,000 VND/fish".
