During the first fishing trips of the new year of Giap Thin 2024, fishermen in coastal communes of Quynh Luu district (Nghe An) had a big catch of herring, earning millions of dong every day.

Quynh Nghia commune has about 50 boats specializing in coastal seafood exploitation, mainly catching herring, mantis shrimp, crab, anchovy... After Tet holiday until now, fishermen here mainly fish for herring with an output of over 150 tons, revenue of over 3 billion VND.

Mr. To Duy Hien - Chairman of the People's Committee of Quynh Nghia Commune (Quynh Luu) said: "The whole commune currently has over 94 offshore fishing vessels, in addition, there are dozens of vessels specializing in coastal fishing. For nearshore fishing boats, at this time, people mainly exploit herring. With such high estimated output and value, it has helped local people have a stable source of income. This is also the motivation for them to continue going offshore, believing and hoping for a successful fishing year."

Not only fishermen in Quynh Nghia commune but also people in some coastal communes of Quynh Luu district such as Quynh Long, Quynh Luong, Quynh Minh, Quynh Bang... are also actively fishing for herring at sea. Every day, fishermen in this district exploit about 30 - 35 tons of herring. With the herring caught during the day, in addition to bringing it to the market to sell fresh, people in coastal areas also dry it in the sun or grill it on hot coals to preserve it for a long time.

For 4 consecutive days, fishermen in the sea of Thach Tri commune, Thach Ha district, Ha Tinh province have had a big catch of large herrings. After each trip, fishermen can catch from 500 kg to 1 ton of herrings, earning tens of millions of dong.

According to local fishermen, this is the biggest herring catch since Tet. Each fishing trip starts at 6am, and by around 9am, the fish are brought ashore and sold to traders.

With prices ranging from 10,000 VND - 15,000 VND/kg, fishermen can earn several million VND per trip. Many large boats even catch 1 ton of fish, earning over 10 million VND.

Quang Binh fishermen catch a lot of yellowfin tuna near shore

In recent days, the weather has been favorable, and the coastal waters of Quang Trach district have continuously seen a flow of yellow fish. Seizing this opportunity, fishermen from Canh Duong and Quang Xuan communes have continuously sailed out to sea, catching tons of yellow fish, earning millions of dong per worker after each trip…

After just one night of fishing, on the morning of March 6, fisherman Nguyen Van Huong’s fishing boat (Tan Cang village, Canh Duong commune) docked, carrying about 1 ton of yellow croaker fish. With a selling price of 100-120 thousand VND/kg, Mr. Huong’s boat earned nearly 100 million VND.

In addition to yellowfin tuna, fishermen in Canh Duong and Quang Xuan communes also caught many other valuable seafood such as squid, anchovies, and herring. On the morning of March 6, fisherman Pham Ngoc Tam's boat (Trung Vu village, Canh Duong commune) caught 300kg of squid.

Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Canh Duong Commune, Nguyen Ngoc Tiep, said that the whole commune currently has about 100 offshore fishing boats. At this time, the weather is favorable, this fleet of boats continuously goes out to sea to fish, achieving high output and income, so fishermen are very excited. Within just 2 days of March 5 and 6, fishermen in the commune caught 30 tons of seafood, of which yellow catfish alone reached 6-8 tons, with revenue of billions of VND.
