Navy celebrates 70th anniversary of Vietnam People's Navy

At the event, delegates watched the traditional film “70 years of sea protection journey”, reviewing the history of formation and development along with typical feats of arms of the Vietnam People's Navy.

Colonel Ngo Van Thanh's speech outlined the glorious 70-year journey of building, fighting and growing up of the Navy. From its predecessor, the Coastal Defense Department, the Vietnam People's Navy has grown steadily, contributing to many historical feats such as: winning the first battle (August 2, 1964 and August 5, 1964); participating in transportation on the "Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea"; liberating the Truong Sa archipelago in the 1975 Spring Campaign and carrying out international missions in Cambodia (1979 - 1989).

Entering a new era, the Navy continues to modernize, master advanced technical equipment and weapons, affirming its combat capability and high combat readiness. The Navy has also effectively carried out foreign defense activities. The bravery, intelligence and determination of Navy officers and soldiers have shone in foreign affairs activities, military and defense cooperation with navies of other countries. Thereby affirming the position and prestige of the Vietnam People's Navy in the region and in the international arena, contributing to protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland from an early age.

The Navy also actively participates in mass mobilization, search and rescue, and natural disaster prevention. The image of Navy soldiers overcoming storms and fighting side by side with the people increasingly emphasizes the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers - Navy soldiers".

With its outstanding achievements and feats, the Vietnam People's Navy has been awarded many noble prizes by the Party and State, including 2 Gold Star Orders, 2 Ho Chi Minh Orders and the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of its founding, the Navy was honored to receive the Ho Chi Minh Order for the third time.

Speaking at the meeting, Colonel Le Van Huong informed about the current situation in the seas, and expressed gratitude and appreciation for the contributions of retired Navy officers. Colonel Le Van Huong hopes that previous generations will continue to accompany and contribute their wisdom and experience to build the Navy stronger and stronger.
