The inauguration of the 500kV line circuit 3 Quang Trach - Pho Noi is unprecedented for 500kV line construction projects as it was completed after just over 6 months of construction.

On August 29, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) and the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) held the inauguration ceremony of the 500kV transmission line circuit 3 project from Quang Trach (Quang Binh) to Pho Noi (Hung Yen).
The inauguration ceremony was held in a combination of live and online formats, with the main bridge taking place at the 500 kV Pho Noi transformer station (Hung Yen) and connecting online to 8 bridges in 8 provinces where the project passes through. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the main bridge and delivered a speech at the inauguration ceremony.
Project faces many challenges
The 500kV line project, circuit 3, Quang Trach - Pho Noi is a large-scale project, with a total length of 519km, 2 circuits with 1,177 pole locations, and a total investment of more than 22,300 billion VND (nearly 1 billion USD).
The project has a volume of earth and rock excavation of more than 2.5 million m3 , using more than 705,000 m3 of concrete, nearly 70,000 tons of foundation steel; total volume of steel column erection is 139,000 tons; pulling a total of nearly 14,000 km of various types of conductors.
This is a key, urgent project of great significance to increase the power transmission capacity through the 500kV system from the Central to the North with a capacity of 2,500MW at present to 5,000MW, improve the stability of the power system operation, and increase power supply to the North in 2025 and the following years. At the same time, the project helps reduce the risk of overloading and overloading of existing 500kV lines and stations, contributing to ensuring national energy security.
According to EVN, the construction process encountered many difficulties and major challenges. That is, it is necessary to carry out a large amount of compensation and site clearance work, the total land area recovered is about 1.83 million m2 , spread across 9 provinces, so the support, resettlement, and production stabilization for 167 households that have to be relocated and 5,248 households affected.
Besides, there are difficulties due to the shortage of mobilizing many special construction machines and equipment at the same time along the entire route; mobilizing highly skilled and specialized forces to construct poles and pull wires is problematic.
In addition, the terrain of the construction route is difficult with many locations on high, steep hills, the road to the column foundations is difficult, especially when it rains, the road is steep, slippery, the construction site is not favorable. The supply of steel columns due to the large total volume and the urgent progress and requirements is also a challenge.
In particular, the construction was carried out during the most unfavorable weather conditions, sometimes with cold drizzle; sometimes with hot weather, many days with extreme heat; sometimes with storms and thunderstorms, even many days with strong winds lasting from 3 to 7 hours, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning... Therefore, there were many times when the construction had to be stopped.
However, with the strong direction of the Government and the Prime Minister, the mobilization of the political system, with new thinking and ways of doing things, the project implementation time has been significantly shortened.

Huge construction volume, unprecedented for 500kV power line project
This is unprecedented with previous 500kV transmission line construction projects. While previous projects were implemented over 3-4 years, the project was completed after more than 6 months of construction, while 60,000 tons of steel poles and 139,000 tons of steel had to be erected, which is more than twice as much as the 500kV circuit 1 project.
With the motto "4 on-site", EVN/EVNNPT has coordinated with local authorities to mobilize human resources, machinery, vehicles, and materials in the localities where the project passes. The electricity sector has also mobilized more than 3,300 people to directly construct poles and pull wires.
At the same time, Viettel, VNPT, and PVN Corporations supported nearly 250 people; local police and military forces such as Military Region 3 and Military Region 4, and militia and self-defense forces mobilized more than 1,500 people to participate, contributing thousands of working days.
Regarding transportation, Vietnam Railways Corporation promptly transported nearly 1,000 containers of imported materials and equipment to Vietnam for handover to construction units.
In addition, the Youth Unions of the provinces mobilized hundreds of teams with more than 6,000 members; the Fatherland Front, the Labor Federation, the Women's Union provided logistical support, and authorities at all levels and local police forces ensured security and order and accommodation for workers...
The enthusiastic atmosphere and determined efforts to complete the 500kV line 3, Quang Trach - Pho Noi, have been promptly reported on the media, contributing to motivating and encouraging workers, and are the most vivid evidence of promoting the combined strength of the entire political system and the great solidarity of the people participating in the project.
The completion of the 500kV line circuit 3 helps Vietnam's power system have 4 500kV North-South lines, which is of great significance in contributing to ensuring energy security, serving the socio-economic development and national security and defense of the country.
The completion of the project is a practical action to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2 and to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the tradition of the Vietnam Electricity industry.
