The ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Information (AMRI 16) recently held in Da Nang was the largest AMRI ever with the participation of 8 Ministers, 4 Deputy Ministers and Heads of information management agencies of 10 ASEAN countries, 3 dialogue countries (China, Japan, South Korea), and 1 observer country (Timor Leste).
Mr. Trieu Minh Long - Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) informed about Vietnam's important contributions at this Conference.
Successfully implemented preparation and organization work in terms of content, security, reception, and logistics, highly appreciated by countries.
Vietnam has closely coordinated with other countries and actively and proactively implemented the organization work to ensure compliance with international practices, promoting the role and position of the host country, and has been highly appreciated by delegates from other countries for both the organization work and the preparation of the contents and documents of the Conference.
Defining new roles and missions, opening up new spaces for the information and communication sector in ASEAN according to Vietnam's initiative
The initiative of the Minister of the host country Vietnam on the theme of AMRI 16: "Communication: From Information to Knowledge for a Resilient and Adaptive ASEAN" was highly appreciated by the countries and was the focus of discussion at the Conference.
Thereby, creating and improving knowledge and understanding from information; the responsibility of platforms and social networks in selecting and sharing useful information, contributing to improving knowledge and understanding;
Press and media agencies have new space to participate more deeply in the content production process.
Vietnam initiated the drafting of the ASEAN Vision 2035 Statement on Information and Communications, which was contributed to and adopted by ASEAN countries at the Conference.
This is the first time ASEAN information cooperation has a document on the vision, development orientation and cooperation of the industry for the next 10 years to 2035, with the following content:
ASEAN Cooperation 2035 on Information and Communications: knowledge-driven, digital transformation creates value, empowers and improves people's lives;
ASEAN Information and Communications Ecosystem 2035: “Strong”, “Resilient” and “Dynamic”; respecting and ensuring the integrity of National Sovereignty in Cyberspace;
Nurture ASEAN identity and sense of belonging; promote social responsibility of cross-border platforms.
Chairing the development of the Da Nang Declaration “Communication: From Information to Knowledge for a Resilient and Adaptive ASEAN”
The document defines new roles and missions, opens up new space for the information and communication sector in ASEAN according to Vietnam's initiative and orients the focus of action to realize these ideas, specifically:
Promote cooperation to improve digital skills, enhance understanding and awareness of access to information and knowledge;
Build a healthy media environment, balance the dosage of information groups (news, entertainment, knowledge) and support information access for everyone;
Increase production and dissemination of suggestive, inspirational, connecting and encouraging content that encourages people to proactively accumulate knowledge, especially young people;
Share experiences, applications, and good practices in digital transformation in the field of journalism and media; share experiences and understanding of the opportunities and challenges of AI and deploying AI applications.
Sharing Vietnam's experience and directions for promoting cooperation in ASEAN:
Digital transformation is an inevitable trend of the Journalism and Media industry to ensure its role as an official, accurate and reliable media channel in the information society:
Vietnam will preside over sharing experiences, good practices, and effective applications with ASEAN countries to promote digital transformation of Press and Media in ASEAN;
Journalism is not only a tool for transmitting accurate information but also plays the role of gatekeeper of truth, storyteller of the times and transmitter of knowledge.
Online fake news is a global issue, Vietnam has chaired the establishment of an ASEAN task force on responding to fake news. Vietnam will work with ASEAN countries to solve the global problem with a regional solution to promote social responsibility and ethics of cross-border platforms;
Providing information to every citizen is a priority task of the Press and Media industry: Vietnam is ready to share its experience in applying smart broadcasting integrated with AI with ASEAN countries to bring information smoothly to the grassroots, to every citizen, whether in remote areas or islands;
In the current information age, with the diversity of information sources, the Press and Media industry needs to support people to connect directly to official information channels. Vietnam is implementing and is ready to share experiences in integrating shortcut keys on smart TV remote controls, promoting local content .
