As Thanh Nien reported, the Vietnamese student team with the core of 7 universities, led by Dong Nai University of Technology, has set off to participate in the 2024 Asian University Football Tournament organized by the Asian University Football Federation (AUFF) in Putrajaya, Selangor state, Malaysia.

There are 8 teams representing 8 Asian countries and territories participating and the draw after the meeting on the afternoon of June 2nd put the Vietnamese team in the same group B to meet Thailand, Japan and Taiwan respectively.

Group A includes South Korea, Oman, the Philippines and host Malaysia. The teams in the group will compete in a round robin to determine rankings, then compete symmetrically to determine the final rankings. The matches scheduled for the Vietnamese team are all at 9am (Malaysia time) on June 3 against Thailand, June 4 against Japan and June 5 against Taiwan.

The whole team showed determination to play well in the match against Thailand.

Head coach of the Vietnamese student team Le Huu Phat said: "The daily competition schedule will be very intense, especially playing in the morning, which can be hot and sunny, so it will consume a lot of physical strength. Therefore, we will have to calculate and distribute our strength appropriately so that we can focus on playing well. In this group, the two opponents that the Vietnamese team will definitely compete with are Thailand and Taiwan because the Japanese team will theoretically be the strongest in the group. So the opening match of the whole team will be very intense when facing Thailand, an opponent with a lot of fate for Vietnamese football. In the past two days since arriving in Malaysia, the whole team has maintained their health and trained well. We don't know much about our opponents yet, but meeting the Thais will definitely be very interesting and we hope that the whole team will try their best to have a good match on the morning of June 3."

Meanwhile, head of the delegation Tang Tri Hung commented: "For teams from Southeast Asia, including the Vietnamese team, Group B is easier to play than Group A because there is no only representative from West Asia, Oman, who is very tall.

Apart from Japan, who may be slightly better, the level of the three teams Thailand, Taiwan and Vietnam will not be much different, so each match promises to be full of emotions and excitement. Of course, we are hoping to improve our performance compared to our previous participation, which was 5th-6th place instead of 7th-8th. But when the draw puts us in the same group with Thailand, it is likely that the opening match will also be the "final" match of the group, possibly for the second place in the group to compete for 3rd-4th place overall. Therefore, the whole team will put all their effort into the opening match with the belief of victory."
