In round 2, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is in group E with China, South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Because they beat South Korea (3-2) in round 1, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team kept their record and only needed to beat North Korea to put one foot in the semi-finals of the 19th ASIAD.
Vietnam women's volleyball team reaches ASIAD semi-finals for the first time
Yesterday (October 4), the Vietnamese women's volleyball team faced off against the "unknown" North Korea. After winning the first two games, the Vietnamese women's team was somewhat complacent and lost the third game, but Thanh Thuy and her teammates managed to come back and win the match with a final score of 3-1 (25-17, 25-20, 20-25, 25-22). In the remaining match of Group E, the Chinese team also easily defeated South Korea 3-0.
Thus, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team and the Chinese team are the two representatives of Group E who have officially won tickets to the semi-finals of the 2022 Asian Games. Therefore, the match in the last round of Group E between the Vietnamese women's volleyball team and the Chinese team is just a formality, determining the first and second positions of the group. "When facing China, we must have a reasonable strategy. The Vietnamese team will not go all out in this match. If we go all out, it will be difficult to get a good result against China. Therefore, we will focus on the semi-final match against the other group winner," coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet shared about the match against the host.
In the match against China, Thanh Thuy and her teammates will not give their all.
The last time the Vietnamese women's volleyball team faced the Chinese team (ranked 6th in the world) was at the 2023 Asian Women's Volleyball Championship (in Thailand). Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and her teammates tried their best but still had to accept defeat with a score of 0-3 (13-25, 12-25, 22-25).
