In response to a lot of information on social networks reflecting that many students were absent from school on the morning of January 16, many of whom had symptoms of fever and stomachache since yesterday, an interdisciplinary inspection team of the People's Committee of Thu Duc City went directly to Nguyen Hien Primary School, An Phu Ward, Thu Duc City to inspect and verify.
According to Thanh Nien Newspaper reporters, the inspection team that arrived at the school at 10:00 am today, January 16, included Mr. Nguyen Van Khuon, Head of the Health Department of Thu Duc City People's Committee. In addition, there were representatives of the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City; representatives of the Thu Duc City Health Center, representatives of the An Phu Ward People's Committee, An Phu Ward Health Station... Regarding the parents' representatives, there was Mr. Bui Le Quoc Bao, Head of the Parents' Representative Board. Regarding Nguyen Hien Primary School, the representative was Mr. Nguyen Kim Thanh, Principal.
According to the inspection team's working minutes, at the time of the inspection, the school's board of directors and representatives of the parents' association said they had received information that 24 students were absent from school on January 16 due to fever and stomachache. The board of directors of Nguyen Hien Primary School said they had verified 24 cases of students requesting to be absent from school. Currently, the health of the students is stable, and there are no cases of hospitalization.
The inspection team requested the school to continue monitoring the students who requested leave from school and promptly notify the People's Committee of An Phu Ward and Thu Duc City when students show unusual signs.
On the afternoon of January 16, speaking with Thanh Nien Newspaper reporter, a professional officer in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City said: "The 24 students who were absent from school on the morning of January 16 each had different symptoms, some had fever, some had headaches, some had stomachaches. None of them had to be hospitalized. Currently, their health is normal."

This professional officer also said: "The school has more than 1,560 students. 24 students were absent on the morning of January 16. The number of students with stomach aches, fevers... were scattered in each class, not concentrated in any one class. There were some students with fevers, stomach aches... but they were not among those who had lunch at school yesterday, January 15. The remaining students also ate lunch at school but were completely healthy. We have checked and taken food samples, checked all stages in the operation of the boarding kitchen at Nguyen Hien Primary School and found them to be safe. It can be concluded that the reason for the above students' absence from school was not due to food poisoning from the school's lunch on January 15."
This professional also noted: "During the transitional season, the weather is erratic, children are susceptible to colds, coughs, fevers... Parents should pay attention to disease prevention for their children, dress them warmly, ensure food hygiene and safety, and do not let children eat snacks at the school gate."
Also this afternoon (January 16), the Head of the Parents' Association of Nguyen Hien Primary School sent a notice to the parents' association of 35 classes in the school.
The announcement reads as follows: "This morning, the school's parent representative board coordinated with the school's board of directors, the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City, and worked directly with the working group including: Thu Duc City Health Department, Thu Duc City Police, An Phu Ward People's Committee, An Phu Ward Medical Center, An Phu Ward Medical Station, and through information inspection, it was verified that the children's stomachache and fever were not due to food from the school meal on January 15, 2024."
At the same time, the head of the parent representative board of Nguyen Hien Primary School also requested that parents not buy food and drinks from street vendors in front of the school gate. The ward People's Committee will pay attention to order issues, handle them thoroughly, and not allow street vendors in front of Nguyen Hien School in the future.
