Dien Bien promotes restructuring of agricultural sector

Dien Bien TV - After more than 10 years of implementing the Agricultural Restructuring Project, the agricultural sector of Dien Bien province has created basic premises for sustainable development along the value chain.

Implementing the Agricultural Restructuring Project, each locality in the province has focused on converting crop structures to suit local advantages, market demand and climate change conditions. In 2024 alone, in the field of cultivation, the whole province has converted more than 2,600 hectares of ineffective rice and corn production to other crops.

Thereby, it has contributed to the formation of concentrated commodity production areas such as: Coffee in Muong Ang and Tuan Giao districts; high-quality rice in Dien Bien, Tuan Giao, Muong Ang districts; macadamia in Tuan Giao, Muong Ang, Dien Bien districts; in which Tuan Giao district is a typical example of restructuring the agricultural sector.

Besides coffee, tea also brings high economic value to farmers in Muong Ang district.

Implementing the Project on Sustainable Development of Grass-fed Livestock in the province for the period 2021 - 2025, with a vision to 2030, the province currently has a total herd of more than 571 thousand cattle. In addition, many scientific topics and projects have been implemented in the area, introducing new breeds into experimental livestock breeding such as: Sustainable development of commercial buffalo herds; improving cattle herds by artificial insemination method... have been effectively implemented.

In 2024 alone, the total value of agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the province is estimated to reach nearly 2,550 billion VND, an increase of more than 4% compared to 2023; ranking 3rd in the Northern Midlands and Mountains region. From reality, it can be affirmed that the agricultural sector in Dien Bien province has created a favorable environment to attract investors.

Dien Bien province strives to restructure the agriculture and forestry sector to account for over 14% of the province's GRDP by 2025; the production value of 1 hectare of cultivated land increases by 15% or more./.
