Hanoi A 6-year-old student was left in a car for about 30 minutes in the midday sun while on a school picnic.
Ms. Nguyen Thuy Hang, founder of the Archimedes school system, confirmed the information on the afternoon of June 23. On June 22, the school organized a tour for about 20 students about to enter grade 1 in Bat Trang, Gia Lam district. On the bus, there were 5 teachers and support staff.
When returning to school at around 12:10, the teacher subjectively neglected to take attendance when getting off the bus. After settling the students in the classroom, the teacher discovered that one student was missing, so they split up to look for him and contact the driver. At 12:40, the school received information from the driver and his parents, saying that the student had fallen asleep and called his mother when he woke up. The driver then took the child back to school.
"At this time, the student's psychology is stable. After eating and resting at noon, he continued his fun experience with friends and teachers," Archimedes Academy Primary School, Cau Giay, said in a statement.

Yesterday afternoon, the school’s board of directors apologized to the student’s family for the incident. According to the school, the student’s family wants to continue sending their child to school here but requested to review the process to avoid any incidents.
Archimedes Academy Primary School also held a meeting with all student management staff to learn from experience, review steps and strengthen control over student pick-up and drop-off activities; report the incident to the education department leaders and establish a disciplinary committee for teachers who violate regulations.
This afternoon, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training requested the Cau Giay Education Department to report the incident, and at the same time, relevant units strictly implement regulations on ensuring safety when organizing extracurricular activities.
Forgetting students in cars has happened in a number of schools in Hanoi. The most serious case was a first-grade student at Gateway School who died after being left in a car for 9 hours in 2019.
According to doctors, when in a closed car without air conditioning, a person can face suffocation and heat stroke. In hot weather, the temperature inside the car can be nearly twice as high as the outside temperature.
