NDO - Established in 2019 and officially put into operation in 2020 by "amateurs", Great Vietnam has been focusing on researching and restoring Vietnamese costumes from hundreds of years ago.

In 2019, Great VietNam was born with the first pillars: Vu Duc (29 years old), Truong Tuan Anh (34 years old). Both are "outsiders" in the field of culture and fashion , but they share a passion for researching and learning about traditional culture. At this time, Vu Duc (in the photo) pursued painting, posting on social media platforms. |

Meanwhile, Tuan Anh researched, designed and sewed traditional patterns himself, as well as participated in the Dai Viet Patterns project. |

Vu Duc said that at first, the group often redrawn dragon and phoenix robes, based on the costumes and images that were said to be reconstructed without any doubts. But later, when doing more research, especially having the opportunity to access the original images of many artifacts, they realized many errors. "These errors have a significant impact on history," Vu Duc said. |

After digging deeper, the team members realized that some of the costumes were reconstructed in a simulated way, not completely accurate. Therefore, Great Vietnam began its own restoration path. |

Great Vietnam agreed to only restore costumes with images and documents to ensure that they can be compared. Tuan Anh is an engineer specializing in technology, responsible for making costume drawings. Vu Duc studied communications and political science, and is responsible for searching for documents and cross-checking... To ensure that they are close to the original, from making the drawings to launching the finished product, some models take up to 3 years, especially with dragon robes and phoenix robes. |

Research and cross-checking were quite difficult due to the lack of documentation. They also went to international auction houses and some museums in Europe and the US to find images that were still preserved. Luckily, there were costumes with specific sizes and images to enlarge. |

After having a unified drawing, they will print the fabric and sew it into a real sample. For embroidered shirts, accessories and hats, they will be transferred to artisans in craft villages to make. For materials, they look for craft villages such as: Van Phuc, La Khe, Buoi, Nha Xa, Nam Cao, Ma Chau, Tan Chau... For each costume model, the group posts on the fanpage, attaching documents so that the public can receive it more completely. |

The efforts have finally paid off. The Great VietNam brand is increasingly known by many young people, and has the opportunity to appear in many major art programs. |

Talking about the direction of work development, Vu Duc and all members of the group hope to be able to bring traditional costumes into cultural and artistic projects that have a great influence on the community, and further, bring traditional costumes into daily life, contributing to affirming the strong vitality of traditional costumes in particular and the immutability of fashion in general. |
