(Dan Tri) - Catching silver pomfret, many fishermen in Sam Son city, Thanh Hoa province made a lot of money on the first day of the new year. There were days when the price of fish was nearly 1 million VND/kg, fishermen pocketed nearly 10 million VND.
At the beginning of the new year, fishermen in Sam Son city, Thanh Hoa province are busy going out to sea to catch silver pomfret, a popular specialty in the days after Tet.
According to local fishermen, after Tet, people's demand for anchovies increases. Therefore, the price of anchovies during this time is often twice as high as usual.
Understanding the consumer psychology, many fishermen in Sam Son have gone to sea early. Right from the second day of Tet, they started their trip to sea with the hope of catching a lot of anchovies to increase their income.
Fisherman Vu Nhu Ca (living in Cong Vinh quarter, Quang Cu ward) shared: "This year, I went to sea on the second day of Tet and earned nearly 1 million VND from selling anchovies.
On the 4th, I had a big catch of anchovies, I sold more than 7 million VND, some boats had big wins, earning more than 10 million VND/day. We were very excited to have good luck at sea at the beginning of the year."
According to Mr. Ca, from the 2nd to the 6th day of Tet, the price of anchovies increased to 350,000-500,000 VND/kg depending on size, and on days of scarcity, the price reached 700,000 VND/kg.
"Even though today is January 8, the price of anchovies is still high, about 350,000 VND/kg for small fish and 500,000 VND/kg for large fish. Despite the high price, anchovies are still sought after by people. There are many days when there is no stock to sell," said Mr. Ca.
According to Dan Tri reporters, at the boat dock at the end of D beach, Sam Son city's coastal tourist area, at around 9am, dozens of boats began to dock. Besides items such as mantis shrimp, crab, and octopus, the most sought-after fish by people is anchovy.

To buy anchovies, people have to come to the wharf very early to wait for the boat to come ashore. As soon as the anchovies arrive, people are already waiting to buy and collect them all.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh, a local resident, shared: "During Tet, everyone in the family feels hot because of beer, alcohol, meat, fish, and grease. For the past two days, I have had to go to the beach to hunt for anchovies to cook soup to "relieve the feeling of fullness". I have to come early, otherwise the fish will run out."
