This afternoon, May 23, the University of Information Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) announced a special scholarship program for students majoring in microchip design, enrollment 2024.
3 types of scholarships for microchip design
According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hoang Tu Anh - Principal of the University of Information Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University), this year is the first year the school opens a major in microchip design engineering. In previous years, microchip design was a major in computer engineering.
The number of large enterprises in the world opening facilities and research centers in Vietnam is increasing, especially in Ho Chi Minh City. This is the beginning of strong development of the microchip design industry in the near future.
Meanwhile, the supply of human resources for businesses related to semiconductor design is quite low compared to the demand. Ho Chi Minh City accounts for 53% of the recruitment demand.
Therefore, investing in developing and training engineers with high knowledge and qualifications in the field of microchip design is necessary for the international integration process, seizing the development opportunities of this career shift.
"In 2024, the school will enroll in the microchip design major (major code 7520202) with 100 targets.
To encourage candidates to choose the field of microchip design, the school decided to spend 1 billion VND each year to award scholarships to students studying this field," Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hoang Tu Anh shared.
Accordingly, the scholarship recipients are students of the 2024 enrollment course who are admitted to the microchip design major and continue to study this major.
The maximum number of scholarships granted each semester is 40 with 3 types of scholarships: type 1 with 10 scholarships worth 100% of semester tuition; type 2 with 15 scholarships worth 75% of semester tuition; type 3 with 15 scholarships worth 50% of semester tuition.
Scholarship review and award process
The University of Information Technology announced the expected tuition fee for full-time students in the 2024-2025 school year for the mass program is 35 million VND/school year.
This scholarship will be awarded to students by the school each semester. Students pay tuition fees according to regulations, then the school will consider awarding scholarships based on the conditions.
For the first semester of the first year, scholarships are awarded based on the results of the school's admission exam to a maximum of 40 students in order of priority:
Students with first or second prizes in the national excellent student competition in informatics, mathematics, and physics in 2023 or 2024: type 1 scholarship.
Third prize and encouragement prize students in the national excellent student competition in informatics, mathematics, and physics in 2023 or 2024: type 2 scholarship.
Students in the top 50 students with the highest scores in the 2024 capacity assessment test or the top 50 students with the highest scores in the 2024 high school graduation exam: type 2 scholarship.
Students in the top 100 students with the highest scores on the 2024 capacity assessment test or the top 100 students with the highest scores on the 2024 high school graduation exam: type 3 scholarship.
From the second semester of the first year onwards, scholarships are awarded based on the results of the previous semester in order of priority, with the semester average being at least 7.5 and the minimum training score being 65.
Conditions for receiving scholarships
MSc. Nguyen Van Toan - Head of Student Affairs Department of the school - said: "The school stipulates that the conditions for receiving the scholarship are that students must be studying microchip design. If students transfer to another major, they will have to return the scholarship that they received in previous semesters.
Students must not have violated any school regulations or disciplinary action. Students must have incurred tuition fees during the semester in which they receive the scholarship and must have had health insurance during the previous semester.
Students who receive this scholarship, if eligible for the entrance scholarship and the study encouragement scholarship, will be considered for the scholarship with the highest value among the three scholarships above.
