Building a standard, green, clean and beautiful barracks

Over the years, the Party Committee and the Brigade Command have paid special attention to innovation, increasingly perfecting and improving the efficiency of logistics work. Focusing on promoting the emulation movement " The Army Logistics Sector follows Uncle Ho's teachings " has motivated the officers and soldiers of the Brigade to strive to ensure better and better logistics services in terms of materials, living, military medicine, barracks, fuel, transportation, and the needs of food, clothing, accommodation, travel, and health care for soldiers are increasingly improved, contributing to building the Brigade to be more and more disciplined, modern, and highly combat-ready.

One of the things that is easy to see when coming to Brigade 167 is a regular, green, clean, beautiful campus and barracks with a system of trees, fruit trees, flower gardens, ornamental plants, billboards, and slogans arranged reasonably, creating a cultural space and improving the daily life of the soldiers.

Lieutenant Colonel Le Dinh Nghi - Deputy Brigade Commander of the Brigade said: To meet the requirements of the mission, the unit has invested in building a new, more spacious barracks. This land was previously a swamp, mainly sandy, barren, saline soil, making it very difficult to take care of trees. However, after 5 years of stationing here, the officers and soldiers of the Brigade have actively planted thousands of new trees, fruit trees, hundreds of potted ornamental plants, renovated many cultural works and institutions and regularly cared for, whitewashed trees, pruned, cultivated, watered trees, especially in the dry season. Up to now, the Brigade has a completely new appearance.

Focus on increasing production

In addition, to improve and enhance the quality of soldiers' lives, the Party Committee and the Brigade Command have had many policies and measures to promote internal resources and create on-site logistics resources, especially for increased production. The Brigade has flexibly applied the garden - pond - barn model. With the increased production garden equipped with a net house system, along with their efforts, determination and creativity, the soldiers have dug up all the alum soil on the surface and transported fertile soil from other places to cultivate, taking advantage of livestock and poultry manure, mixing ash, rice husks, chopped leaves, composting to turn the barren land into a lush vegetable garden with a variety of crops such as mustard greens, Malabar spinach, water spinach, jute, squash, pumpkin, luffa, etc. In addition, to ensure that the unit always has vegetables for the season, rotating them in the kitchen, avoiding the phenomenon of sometimes having a surplus and sometimes a shortage, the units have developed and implemented specific increased production plans; Regularly proactively search for plant varieties suitable for weather conditions; apply effective planting techniques to ensure clean vegetables for soldiers.

Regarding livestock farming, the Brigade has renovated the livestock area, developed livestock and poultry herds, and in the first 6 months of 2023 alone, imported and well cared for 1,000 sea ducks, 45 pigs and hundreds of chickens. To ensure hygiene, the unit has regularly monitored and taken measures to prevent and control epidemics such as: vaccination, disinfection around barns, and concentrated livestock farming far from military housing areas. These are important conditions to help livestock and poultry grow well and not be affected by epidemics.

In addition, the Brigade has built fish ponds and used waterproof tarpaulins to ensure fresh water reserves, avoiding salinity, both for raising fish and for irrigating crops, bringing practical results.

Standard kitchen

To ensure quality food on-site, especially when the ships are operating at sea, the Brigade has deployed and put into effective operation 3 bread production ovens and invested in installing a new tofu production line. The fragrant, hot breads make the soldiers' breakfast more diverse and ensure quality. Along with that, the Brigade always maintains a good centralized supply operation, in order to exploit and create a source of food and foodstuffs with reasonable prices and good quality to supply to the kitchens. Absolutely ensuring food hygiene and safety, 100% of the unit's kitchens meet the standards of "Good feeding of soldiers - Good military management".

Implementing the slogan: "Delicious food does not have to cost a lot, the same standards plus enthusiasm", the team of military feeding staff has made efforts to ensure cooked food, boiled water, adequate quantity and food hygiene and safety.

Although there were times when it was difficult to ensure food due to epidemics or fluctuations in market prices, ensuring on-site logistics contributed to maintaining the quality of daily meals for soldiers. With creative and methodical ways of ensuring logistics, Brigade 167 won many high prizes in the 4-specialty logistics competition at the regional and service levels; at the same time, it contributed to maintaining a healthy number of troops to serve training, combat readiness, and successfully complete assigned tasks.
