Soybean is considered to have many opportunities for development in Dak Nong, especially when farmers, the State, and businesses join hands to form safe agricultural product chains, in the direction of goods.
Mr. Pham Van Duan, Dak D'rong commune (Cu Jut) has been growing soybeans for over 20 years. From old local varieties, he boldly produced new bean varieties with higher productivity and product quality. His family currently has 3 hectares of land growing soybeans with the new Vinasoy 02-NS variety.
With new varieties, soybean productivity is constantly improving. Previously, each hectare of soybeans only yielded 2 tons of beans, but now it can reach 3 tons.

Mr. Duẩn is one of the members of Nam Dong Soybean Cooperative. The cooperative was established at the end of 2019 and currently has 115 members, producing 152 hectares of soybeans/crop.
Mr. Nguyen Van Trung, Director of Nam Dong Soybean Cooperative, said that the Cooperative has signed a long-term cooperation agreement with Vietnam Soymilk Company Vinasoy.
Accordingly, members are provided with seeds and technical guidance on soybean cultivation. The entire soybean output is purchased by the Company. This activity has been going smoothly for the past 5 years. Currently, many households have requested to join the cooperative, but the unit is considering carefully to ensure production standards.
Mr. Ho Son, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Cu Jut district, said that soybeans are very suitable for Cu Jut land. This plant has been grown in Cu Jut since the 1900s. The previous soybean variety was the local white cotton variety.
At one point, the soybean area in Cu Jut district reached 10,000 hectares. Due to a number of factors, the soybean area in Cu Jut gradually decreased. By 2000, the soybean area in the district was only 2,000 hectares. Currently, the district only has about 1,000 hectares of soybeans per year.
“Vinasoy's cooperation with households, especially in purchasing output products, is a great opportunity for the locality as well as the people in building a stable and sustainable soybean material area, applying high technology,” Mr. Son assessed.
According to a representative of Vinasoy Company, when farmers strictly comply with technical requirements, food safety, and environmental protection, soybean products grown in Dak Nong will have high productivity and quality. This is a valuable source of raw materials for the Company in processing products that are popular with consumers.
The company believes that Dak Nong still has a lot of room for soybean development. This is the reason why the company chose Dak Nong to set up a soybean gene research station for ecological regions across the country.
According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Nong province, each crop, the whole province only has about 2,000 hectares of soybeans. In the summer-autumn crop of 2023 alone, the province only has about 1,700 hectares of soybeans. However, the opportunity for expanding soybean acreage is still very large.
Mr. Le Hoang Duy, Deputy Director of the Center for Soybean Application Research (Vinasoy) said: The company has been promoting research and evaluation to produce new soybean varieties.
The new varieties have many advantages such as high yield, high protein content, pest resistance, salinity resistance, and acid sulfate resistance to suit many ecological regions of Dak Nong as well as the whole country.
Recently, at the Central Highlands Soybean Testing Station (located in Cu Jut), the Center has researched and evaluated 1,533 valuable genetic resources to develop soybean varieties.
Vinasoy’s creation of new high-quality varieties and its association with farmers in the value chain is a sustainable approach for soybeans. This approach needs to be replicated in other suitable ecological regions across the country.
Mr. Dinh Cong Chinh, Department of Crop Production, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development
Mr. Dinh Cong Chinh, Department of Crop Production (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) added: In recent times, the area and output of soybeans in the country have continuously decreased. If in 2010 the whole country had over 197,000 hectares of soybeans, now there are only 37,000 hectares.
Currently, Vietnam is short of about 3.5-5 million tons of soybeans per year. Vietnam has become a major soybean importer, with a turnover of about 2-3 billion USD per year, equivalent to the current rice export turnover.
Therefore, expanding the production of high-quality soybeans in ecological regions suitable for farmers such as Dak Nong or the Central Highlands is very reasonable.
By 2025, Dak Nong province aims to develop about 3,000 hectares of soybeans in Cu Jut and Dak Mil districts. The province has been introducing high-yield, good-quality soybean varieties into production.
