On the afternoon of October 22, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Head of the Postgraduate Training Department, Hanoi Law University, said that yesterday afternoon, the school received an official dispatch from the Ministry of Education and Training regarding the revocation of Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's degree.
In compliance with the request of the Ministry of Education and Training, Hanoi Law University conducted legal procedures to cancel the results and revoke the degrees granted to Mr. Vuong Tan Viet in accordance with the provisions of law.
Through the incident, the school held a meeting to review and evaluate the implementation of training regulations to continue improving the process, enhancing training quality and avoiding similar cases.
Together with Hanoi Law University, Hanoi University is also carrying out procedures to revoke the bachelor's degree in English from the distance learning program granted to Mr. Vuong Tan Viet.
The university canceled the training results and revoked the degree of Mr. Vuong Tan Viet.
Mr. Vuong Tan Viet caused a stir in public opinion when he successfully defended his doctoral thesis at Hanoi Law University in just over 2 years. Hanoi Law University affirmed that Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's total doctoral training time met and complied with the doctoral training regulations.
Before graduating with a doctorate, Mr. Vuong Tan Viet had a bachelor's degree in English (2001) from the University of Foreign Languages (now Hanoi University); graduated with a bachelor's degree in Law in 2019 from Hanoi Law University (second degree, part-time program).
At the end of July, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training had a working session with the inspection team of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs - Ministry of Home Affairs to verify the learning process of Mr. Vuong Tan Viet. Through the working session, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training coordinated with the inspection team to review all records including the list of candidates who graduated from supplementary high school and the list of names and scores of all candidates who took the exam on June 6, 1989.
At the end of the inspection process, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City confirmed that Mr. Vuong Tan Viet was not on the list of candidates and the score sheet of the 1989 high school supplementary graduation exam of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City. At the same time, Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's name was also not on the list of high school supplementary graduation certificates issued on June 6, 1989 by the Department.
On the evening of October 21, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the results of the verification of Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's degree. The results determined that Mr. Vuong Tan Viet used an illegal high school diploma and Mr. Vuong Tan Viet also admitted to this.
The Ministry of Education and Training requested relevant higher education institutions to urgently revoke the diploma granted to Mr. Vuong Tan Viet according to the law, and at the same time review the training organization process to avoid similar cases.
