Hanoi University and Hanoi Law University are revoking the degrees granted to Mr. Vuong Tan Viet.

On the morning of October 22, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, head of the postgraduate training department, Hanoi Law University, said that after receiving the official dispatch from the Ministry of Education and Training on the afternoon of October 21, Hanoi Law University has carried out legal procedures to cancel the training results (learning results) and is withdrawing the degrees granted to Mr. Vuong Tan Viet in accordance with the provisions of law.

Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on the morning of October 22, Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung, vice principal of Hanoi University, said that Hanoi University is carrying out procedures to revoke the bachelor's degree in English from the distance learning program granted to Mr. Vuong Tan Viet.

Previously, on August 14, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , a school representative said that Mr. Vuong Tan Viet studied the English language undergraduate program at Hanoi University of Foreign Languages, distance learning system.

Study period from 1994 to 2001. The maximum training period of the distance learning program during the period when Mr. Vuong Tan Viet studied was 9 years.

According to the school representative, Hanoi University currently no longer has Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's enrollment records because according to regulations, the enrollment records must be kept until the end of the course.

As for student information, the school keeps it according to regulations, including academic results, admission and graduation decisions of students.

On the evening of October 21, according to information from the Ministry of Education and Training, the ministry has recently reviewed the training process and coordinated with relevant agencies to verify Mr. Vuong Tan Viet's qualifications according to a thorough, careful process, in accordance with legal regulations.

The results determined that Mr. Vuong Tan Viet had used an illegal high school diploma. Mr. Vuong Tan Viet also admitted to this.

The Ministry of Education and Training has requested relevant higher education institutions to urgently revoke the diploma granted to Mr. Vuong Tan Viet according to the law, and at the same time review the training organization process to avoid similar cases.

A representative of the Ministry of Education and Training confirmed that Mr. Vuong Tan Viet also admitted to that and voluntarily handed over the diplomas for handling according to regulations.

According to information from Hanoi Law University, student Vuong Tan Viet was born in 1959. Before applying for the doctoral program, he graduated with a bachelor's degree in English in 2001 from Hanoi University of Foreign Languages ​​(now Hanoi University); graduated with a bachelor's degree in law in 2019 from Hanoi Law University (second degree, part-time program). Hanoi University of Foreign Languages ​​(now Hanoi University) may be the first university to grant a bachelor's degree to Mr. Vuong Tan Viet (Venerable Thich Chan Quang).
