(Fatherland) - On November 15, the People's Committee of Da Nang city held the 2nd Conference to honor ethnic minority representatives of Da Nang city in 2024.
With the theme "Ethnic groups unite, innovate, promote advantages, potentials, integrate and develop sustainably", the conference aims to summarize and evaluate the results of the first Conference in 2019, draw practical lessons in implementing ethnic work and ethnic policies of the Party and State in the city.
At the same time, honor, commend and reward outstanding collectives and individuals in implementing ethnic work and ethnic policies in the period of 2019 - 2024. Thereby continuing to affirm the consistent policy of our Party and State on ethnic work and great national unity; affirming the attention of the Party and State to ethnic minorities.
In addition, the Conference also has the task of determining the goals, directions, and tasks of ethnic work and ethnic policies of the city until 2029, proposing key solutions to focus on leadership and direction of implementation; especially completing the targets and tasks of socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the city.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi said that currently, in Da Nang city, there are about 31 ethnic minorities living together; in which, the ethnic groups that have settled in this land for a long time are the Co Tu and Hoa ethnic groups; ethnic groups that have migrated from other provinces to live here for many years include: M'nong, Tay, Muong, Nung, H'mong, Thai, Dao... This has contributed to creating a very rich and diverse cultural picture and creating a unique feature of Da Nang city.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Hau A Lenh - Minister, Chairman of the Ethnic Committee acknowledged and highly appreciated the achievements of the Party Committee, government and people of Da Nang City in recent times, especially the efforts of ethnic minorities.
The Minister and Chairman of the Ethnic Committee requested the Party Committees and authorities of Da Nang City to build and consolidate the grassroots political system in ethnic minority and mountainous areas; focus on training and developing human resources, increasing the number of capable and dedicated cadres to work in difficult areas; promote the role of prestigious people and all classes of people in building and consolidating the grassroots political system. In addition, the city pays attention to preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values, tangible and intangible cultural heritage of ethnic minorities; promote health care, ensure ecological environmental sanitation, develop services - tourism for ethnic minorities...

At the Conference, Minister and Chairman of the Ethnic Committee Hau A Lenh presented Certificates of Merit to 1 collective and 5 individuals. The Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee presented Certificates of Merit to 5 collectives and 23 individuals; the City People's Committee Office presented Certificates of Merit to 4 collectives and 21 ethnic minority individuals with outstanding achievements in implementing ethnic work and ethnic policies of the Party and State.
Da Nang City currently has nearly 1.3 million people, including 31 ethnic minorities with nearly 5,900 people. The Co Tu ethnic group lives mainly in Ta Lang and Gian Bi villages, Hoa Bac commune and Phu Tuc village, Hoa Phu commune, Hoa Vang district. In recent years, the City Party Committee and People's Committee of Da Nang City have always devoted all resources to poverty reduction, investment in infrastructure and cultural institutions. In the period of 2019-2024, from the capital of the National Target Program on Poverty Reduction, the People's Committee of Da Nang City supported housing construction for more than 50 ethnic minority households in Hoa Vang district; supported more than 420 poor households to borrow capital to create jobs, raise livestock and grow crops; purchased and issued health insurance cards for more than 4,200 people from poor households, near-poor households and households escaping poverty.
Da Nang City also has a policy of exempting tuition fees for more than 1,200 students and supporting study costs for 350 students from poor households. Along with that, the City also has many outstanding social security policies such as monthly social allowances for people who are receiving social protection policies and the elderly, the disabled, and orphans who are often sick and not eligible for social protection policies; monthly social allowances for poor people with cancer, chronic kidney failure on dialysis... To date, 100% of poor and near-poor households in the 2019-2021 period have escaped poverty.
