By the afternoon of March 14, medical facilities in Khanh Hoa had recorded 222 cases of suspected food poisoning due to eating chicken rice at a chicken restaurant in Nha Trang City.

According to a quick report from the Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Health, by 3:00 p.m. on March 14, medical facilities across the province had recorded 222 suspected cases of food poisoning after eating chicken rice at Tram Anh Chicken Rice restaurant (Ba Trieu Street, Nha Trang City).
Of these, 155 patients are being treated at medical facilities with stable vital signs, some patients still have symptoms of nausea, frequent loose stools, and intermittent abdominal pain. The cases are under the professional control of medical facilities. The remaining patients have been discharged from the hospital and allowed to return for outpatient monitoring.
Being treated at Khanh Hoa General Hospital, Ms. HA (19 years old, residing in Lam Dong province) said that her family had a 5-day trip to Nha Trang.
At noon on March 11, her family chose TA Chicken Rice restaurant for their meal. Here, 7 family members ordered 3 fried chicken dishes, 3 boiled chicken dishes including rice, chicken, pickled vegetables, butter and egg sauce and soup.
After that, the whole family continued to visit, and had beef in the evening. That night, when returning to the hotel, Ms. HA's whole family showed signs of vomiting and diarrhea. On March 12, the whole family showed signs of fatigue and high fever, so they were hospitalized for treatment.
Commenting on the food, Ms. HA said, the food is delicious, nothing unusual, it is a famous restaurant in Nha Trang.
Mr. Trinh Ngoc Hiep - Deputy Director of the Department of Health visited patients suspected of food poisoning after eating chicken rice.
On March 14, Mr. Trinh Ngoc Hiep - Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Health went to hospitals to check and visit patients being treated for suspected poisoning. Mr. Hiep informed that, up to now, the results of testing of clinical samples and food samples have not been available, so the cause of the incident cannot be determined.
After the incident, authorities went to the restaurant to inspect and took food samples from the chicken rice restaurant for testing. The restaurant was also temporarily suspended to serve the investigation.
Previously, VTC News reported that on March 13, hospitals in Nha Trang City received 60 patients with symptoms of vomiting, fever, abdominal pain, etc. The patients said that the above symptoms appeared after eating at Tram Anh chicken rice restaurant.
On the same day, the Department of Health directed medical facilities in the province to be ready to receive and admit patients, and not to delay emergency care for patients.
In particular, it is required that patients with severe poisoning symptoms, children and the elderly are given priority to be transferred to higher-level hospitals. Medical facilities promptly consult with the Provincial General Hospital on professional matters when there are cases with unusual, complicated or worse developments, difficult to predict, to avoid cases where the disease progresses severely, exceeding the treatment capacity of the unit.
When receiving patients, it is necessary to take samples for testing, store specimens; coordinate the provision of specimens, test results, etc.
“The Department of Health directs the provincial Food Safety and Hygiene Department to provide professional and technical support to the food poisoning investigation teams of Nha Trang City throughout the investigation process; regularly update the situation and developments of the food poisoning case to advise the Department of Health to deploy timely response measures... The Department of Health will inform the cause of food poisoning as soon as the investigation results and test samples are available,” said Dr. Le Van Khoa - Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Health.
