The culvert was built on Rach Mop River with a total cost of about 500 billion VND. Accordingly, the culvert has a water clearance width of 85m with 2 culvert compartments (each compartment is 35m wide), 1 boat lock compartment is 15m wide. In addition, there are also auxiliary works such as a management house with reinforced concrete foundation and columns, automatic monitoring and surveillance system.
Mr. Tran Van Lau - Chairman of Soc Trang Provincial People's Committee said that the completion of Rach Mop sluice gate project will help control salinity, retain fresh water, creating stable and sustainable production conditions for the natural area of 19,220 hectares in Ke Sach, Chau Thanh, Long Phu districts, Soc Trang city.
At the same time, the project also helps to minimize the impact caused by drought and salinity and create a source of fresh water supply to cope with high salinity periods on the Hau River for a natural area of 36,710 hectares in Ke Sach and Chau Thanh districts (Soc Trang province) and Chau Thanh district, Nga Bay town (Hau Giang province), increasing the ability to circulate water flow, improving the efficiency of acid drainage, alum washing and drainage, and improving the environment of the project area.

In addition to Rach Mop sluice gate, Soc Trang also has Muong Khai 2 sluice gate, Tra Ech sluice gate, Cai Trung sluice gate, Cau Truong sluice gate, Tra Quyt sluice gate which need investment attention to ensure water source for production, daily life, livelihood and health of people in the coming time.
In addition to the above 5 sluices, the leaders of Soc Trang province also proposed that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development support capital to build embankments for Rach Mop sluice and Phung An canal to prevent landslides, and soon deploy Bai Xao sluice and Dai Ngai sluice to store fresh water for the province.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Hoang Hiep acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of the locality and construction units in completing the Rach Mop sluice gate project ahead of schedule. "This is a meaningful project, together with the remaining sluice gates, ensuring production and clean water for the daily life of more than 30,000 households," said Mr. Hiep.

According to Mr. Hiep, the forecast of drought and salinity in 2025 is expected to be lower than the average of many years, with the salinity intrusion range of about 5-7km, not too severe. However, in addition to non-structural solutions, localities need to adjust the crop season and change the structure of crops and livestock accordingly.
Regarding the remaining sewer projects mentioned above, Mr. Hiep informed that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has allocated capital for implementation. The locality needs to speed up the site clearance and handover to the investor by the end of June 2025 at the latest so that construction can start simultaneously in the third quarter of 2025, ensuring the completion of the entire project by 2026.
