Cong Phuong is going through gloomy days in Yokohama's shirt, having only played in one official match on April 5.
Cong Phuong does not get to play much in Yokohama's shirt.
In J-League 1 alone, the former HAGL star was not registered to play in 13 matches.
Not being able to play regularly has caused Cong Phuong's performance to decline and his chances of being selected for the Vietnam national team to gradually decrease.
“Honestly, to be selected for the national team, you have to play a lot for your club. I don’t have that.
However, I am practicing very hard and waiting for the opportunity to come and seize it," Cong Phuong told Hochi newspaper (Japan).
In March 2023, the Vietnamese team gathered for the first time, but the player from Nghe An was not on the list because it was not FIFA Day.
In mid-June, the Vietnamese team will continue to gather for a friendly match, which is part of FIFA's schedule.
However, Cong Phuong admitted that he has very few opportunities to be called up to the national team and he is even afraid that coach Troussier does not know who he is.
“I’m afraid he (Coach Troussier) doesn’t even know who I am. In Japan, fans know more about Coach Troussier than me,” Cong Phuong shared.
This season, Yokohama is not playing well with only 9 points after 13 matches and ranked 17/18.
However, this team is showing signs of returning recently when winning 2/3 of the most recent matches in J-League 1.
According to the schedule, on May 20, Yokohama will face Kawasaki Frontale in round 14 of J-League 1.
Notably, Kawasaki Frontale is the team that owns Thai star Chanathip Songkrasin.
