From the 2025-2026 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will eliminate 22 specialized classes in mass high schools, equivalent to 770 quotas.
On the afternoon of April 22, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced that next school year, the city will stop enrolling in non-specialized classes in specialized schools, according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.
In the 2025-2026 school year, the city will continue to stop enrolling students in specialized classes in regular schools (mass schools). These four schools are Nguyen Thuong Hien, Gia Dinh, Nguyen Huu Huan, and Mac Dinh Chi high schools, enrolling 22 specialized classes each year with 770 students.
The Department has not given a specific explanation. Because Circular 32 of 2020 of the Ministry of Education and Training on the regulations of junior high schools, high schools and multi-level high schools does not provide the above regulation. In Hanoi, there are two high schools that still recruit specialized 10th graders: Chu Van An and Son Tay.
This year, Ho Chi Minh City recruits 1,995 specialized students from 6 schools, specifically:

Candidates who want to take the entrance exam for specialized classes can register for a maximum of 3 wishes instead of 2 as before. The wishes are arranged in order of priority from top to bottom. Candidates who are admitted to a wish must study in that class and cannot change.
For English major classes, candidates have two options. One is, if registering for a traditional English major class, candidates take the English major exam as in previous years.
Second, for the English specialized class under project 5695 (also known as the English - Math - Science specialized class), candidates take an English, Math and Natural Science knowledge test in English. This specialized class was first organized at Le Hong Phong and Tran Dai Nghia High Schools for the Gifted.

Candidates who register for specialized and integrated classes will take an additional specialized and integrated subject exam within 150 minutes.
In Thanh An island commune, Can Gio district, 10th grade enrollment is based on selection.
