The 1st VIFA ASEAN 2023 officially took place on August 29 at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC), 799 Nguyen Van Linh, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Liem, Director of the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry - Ho Chi Minh City Branch (VCCI Ho Chi Minh City) - said: This is an important trade promotion event for businesses in the wood, interior and exterior furniture industry to have the opportunity to introduce new products and technologies in wood production and processing; at the same time, it is also an opportunity for businesses to build and promote their brands and products, increase opportunities to connect, meet and cooperate with customers, partners, international trade promotion organizations, expand export markets, contributing to promoting the stable and sustainable development of Vietnam's wood processing industry and forestry trade.

Pointing out the reasons, Mr. Liem said that in the first months of this year, the import and export situation of wood products, interior and exterior furniture has experienced many fluctuations and decreased orders due to the impact of political tensions, global economic recession, and many instabilities arising from limited supply, inflationary pressure reducing purchasing power, energy costs and logistics issues. Therefore, finding orders through the Fair is a truly necessary and practical activity for businesses at the present time.

Records at this fair show that, although it is the first year of organization, VIFA ASEAN 2023 still brings together 200 prestigious domestic and foreign wood and handicraft manufacturers and processors to participate with a scale of 600 booths and more than 2,000 international visitors registered to visit.

Accordingly, domestically, there are provinces and cities such as: Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Thanh Hoa, Nam Dinh, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Long An, Binh Phuoc, Tien Giang, Ben Tre...; internationally, there are the United States, Korea, China, Japan, India, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand...

Targeting the $3 billion market in ASEAN

Sharing the reason why this year's fair aims to attract businesses in the ASEAN bloc, the representative of the fair organizer said that Southeast Asia has now become an important and dynamic economic region of the world, and is also one of the leading centers for manufacturing and supplying interior and exterior wooden furniture and handicrafts in the world. In particular, Vietnam is the leading exporter of wooden products in Southeast Asia and the second in Asia. Therefore, organizing the VIFA ASEAN Fair 2023 contributes to building Ho Chi Minh City into one of the centers for promoting trade in wooden furniture and interior and exterior furniture in the ASEAN region.

Besides, according to Mr. Tran Ngoc Liem, among the potential markets, ASEAN countries are the region with the most room. This market is worth up to over 3 billion USD, and Vietnam has only exported over 100 million USD to this market. This is a nearby market with many cultural similarities, so in the current difficult context, wood industry enterprises can focus on exploiting this market.

VIFA ASEAN 2023 is held with a series of major furniture fairs in the Asian region, including: KOFURN - Korea International Furniture and Interior Decoration Fair (August 24-27, 2023); VIFA ASEAN - Vietnam ASEAN International Furniture and Handicraft Export Fair (August 29 - September 1, 2023); CIFF Shanghai - CIFF Shanghai International Furniture Fair (September 5-9, 2023), Maison Shanghai - Shanghai Interior Decoration Fair (September 11-14, 2023); Furniture China - China Furniture Fair (September 11-15, 2023); IFFINA - Indonesia Furniture and Design Exhibition (September 14-17, 2023).
