On the afternoon of December 2, President of the Cambodian National Assembly Samdech Khuon Sudary and the high-ranking delegation of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia left Hanoi, successfully concluding an official visit to Vietnam from November 30 to December 2, 2023, at the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue. Chairman of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee Vu Hai Ha gave an interview to the press about the results of the visit.
According to the Chairman of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee, the visit of President of the Cambodian National Assembly Samdech Khuon Sudary to Vietnam this time is of great significance. This is Samdech Khuon Sudary's first foreign visit as President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia right after Cambodia held the 7th National Assembly election and completed the new leadership apparatus in August 2023, with the transfer of the generation of leaders who participated in the struggle to liberate the country from the Pol Pot genocidal regime to a well-trained younger generation. Notably, Samdech Khuon Sudary is the first female President of the National Assembly of Cambodia.

"The visit of the President of the Cambodian National Assembly continues to affirm the policy of attaching importance to relations with Vietnam and strengthening cooperation between the two National Assemblies, contributing to promoting relations between the two countries," said Mr. Vu Hai Ha.
During the visit, the President of the Cambodian National Assembly paid a courtesy call to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Vo Van Thuong and had a comprehensive and in-depth meeting with National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue. The two sides discussed the overall bilateral relationship from politics, diplomacy to trade, economy, investment as well as national defense-security, cultural-social cooperation and people-to-people exchange. Both sides affirmed their respect for the history of bilateral relations, having stood shoulder to shoulder against common enemies and together with Laos, the three Indochinese countries fought together for independence and national liberation and now support each other to build an increasingly rich and prosperous country and happy people.
The results of the visit contributed to the overall implementation of the foreign policy of the Party and State of Vietnam, which attaches importance to neighboring countries with special relationships such as Laos and Cambodia.
The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly also said that the two countries' National Assemblies have signed new cooperation agreements during the official visit to Cambodia by National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue (November 2022). Therefore, the visit of National Assembly Chairman Samdech Khuon Sudary is an affirmation of continuing to promote the implementation of cooperation agreements between the two sides, agreeing to increase the exchange of high-level delegations, committee-level delegations and expert-level delegations to enhance exchanges and share experiences in law-making, supervision and decision-making on important issues of the country - very important functions of the National Assembly.
The two sides will strengthen coordination to monitor agreements and treaties between the two countries, especially areas of mutual interest and promotion such as the border areas between the two countries, the Development Triangle between Cambodia - Laos - Vietnam, and the CLMV cooperation mechanism (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam).
The two sides will also strengthen coordination at international forums on regional and international issues of mutual concern, cooperate to resolve traditional and non-traditional security issues, and build a peaceful, stable and developing environment for each country...
Regarding the upcoming first Cambodia - Laos - Vietnam (CLV) Summit in Laos, Chairman Vu Hai Ha affirmed that this Conference is very important in establishing a complete cooperation mechanism between the three countries on the Party, Government and National Assembly channels.
The three countries have a tradition of solidarity and mutual support in the past struggle for national liberation and today work together to cooperate in economic development and construction through programs connecting the three economies, implementing projects to enhance cooperation in the development triangle of the three countries in the Central Highlands of Vietnam, the Northeast of Cambodia and Southern Laos - areas of utmost importance in terms of security, national defense as well as improving people's lives, protecting the environment and biodiversity of the three countries.

"During this visit, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and National Assembly Chairman Samdech Khuon Sudary committed to successfully organizing the conference with the Lao National Assembly. The Vietnamese National Assembly has closely coordinated with the Cambodian and Lao National Assembly to develop the conference's content to promote the connection of the three economies with the themes of each Committee on foreign affairs, economy, culture - society, defense - security", Mr. Vu Hai Ha emphasized.
"Within the framework of the conference, the leaders of the three countries' National Assembly will discuss in detail the contents of promoting and enhancing cooperation to ensure a stable environment in the border areas between the three countries, protecting the environment, responding to climate change, preserving culture, promoting development, improving people's lives to be able to keep up with other developed regions in each country."
