Audiences watch a movie at a “Mobile Cinema” in France
The more developed a country becomes and the more modern the world becomes, the more this form of film screening fades away, and in many places in the world it has completely disappeared. Yet in the Loire Valley Center region of France, mobile film screening has been maintained for more than 40 years. Since October 1, 2022, this place has also tested the use of the so-called "Mobile Cinema" or "Mobile Cinema". After nearly a year and a half, this experiment has proven to be very successful, and because it has been very successful, it is not surprising that this form of mobile film screening has not only been maintained and developed, but has become a model that is intentionally applied in many other places in this country, most likely not limited to France.
The name reflects its true nature. It is a real cinema with the ability to move from one locality to another. The audience sits in a closed space with comfortable and decent seats labeled Made in France, meaning manufactured in France. The projection room has air conditioning and a ventilation system so that no matter how harsh or unfavorable the weather is, it will not hinder the screening. Although it is only a mobile cinema in a local, rural area far from the city, the technology and projection equipment are very modern, with the latest films introduced and shown, the ticket price is insignificant compared to the price of a movie ticket in the city.
The mobile cinema is actually just a large car that has been converted into a cinema. The truck is 14m long and 4.4m high. When on the road, the vehicle is 2.55m wide. To become a cinema, the vehicle opens on both sides, creating a viewing area for 100 spectators. The four sides are covered to create a dark space, soundproofed so that the audience can enjoy the highest quality sound without causing noise to the outside environment. This mobile cinema, funded by the Loire Valley Center regional government together with the French National Cinema Center and implemented by the local cultural agency, travels to 46 locations in the region all year round and in 2023 welcomed tens of thousands of spectators to watch movies.
The idea is to bring cinema to areas where people do not have the financial or transportation to go to the main cinemas in big cities. On certain occasions, famous actors, who played the main or supporting roles in the film being shown, are invited to meet and talk with the audience.
The combination of watching movies in a blend of nostalgia and modernity is what makes the audience very excited and is the outstanding advantage of this mobile cinema. In today's modern world, the way to watch movies online is the biggest threat to the fate of cinemas in their classic form and organization. As modern conveniences increasingly prevail, cinemas can only continue to exist and develop when the audience feels in reality the complete difference between enjoying a movie in a cinema, and watching a movie online.
So the successful experiment in France had very positive cultural value and impact.
