Military experts and analysts, including Deputy Director of the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence Service (GUR) Vadym Skibitsky, are discussing the direction of the main attack of the Russian army. According to them, the attack could be carried out by the forces of the Northern Group (Russia).
Despite the optimistic statements of the Ukrainian side about the inability to reach Kharkov, the picture on the ground tells a different story - the Russian army is not only ready for offensive actions, but also actively uses the tactical element of surprise and preparation in depth.

In preparation for the possible operation, the Russian military is said to have deployed a battalion of the 76th Airborne Division to the Kursk region. This is part of a larger effort to assemble a significant force for the operation. According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), around 50,000 troops have been concentrated, which confirms the seriousness of Russia’s military operations in the region.
It is worth mentioning that the recent significant build-up of the Russian military, especially in the form of air strikes, drones and missiles against the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, has caused concern in the Ukrainian command. These actions, combined with a “limited offensive operation” taking place in the Kharkiv region, could become a decisive factor in the current conflict. It could significantly disrupt military operations and weaken Ukraine’s ability to organize defense.
Russian forces destroy positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
As discussions continue in the United States about supporting Ukraine’s counteroffensive, the Ukrainian command faces a number of problems both on the front and in the rear. Russia is now not only showing superiority but also showing strategic acumen, preparing to seize the opportunity to launch a game-changing attack in the region.
Recently, the media has revealed the deep raids of Russian reconnaissance and sabotage groups carried out in the border areas of Chernigov, Sumy and Kharkov regions. These activities not only demonstrate the high level of training and professionalism of Russian special forces, but also show Russia's intention to focus on a strategy of destabilizing the defense system of Ukraine.
Ukrainian officials, including regional leaders, have repeatedly expressed concern about Russia’s increased drone and missile attacks, which have diverted the Ukrainian command’s attention and resources, forcing it to disperse its forces and assets to defend a large number of perceived potential targets.
Whether or not there will be a large-scale attack on the Kharkov region, we will probably have an answer in the next few days.
