The yellow apricot trees bloom and spread their fragrance in offices, organizations, and homes during Tet, then return to Ham Hiep apricot village (Binh Thuan province) or to planting, buying, selling, and renting establishments to restore and prepare for the new spring.

In the days after Tet, on the intra-provincial roads, especially in Phan Thiet City (Binh Thuan Province), it is not difficult to see vehicles carrying pots of bright yellow apricot flowers to the outlying communes such as Phong Nam (Phan Thiet), Ham Hiep, Ham Liem, Ham Duc of Ham Thuan Bac District, mainly to Ham Hiep apricot village.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, in Phu Tai ward, Phan Thiet city, who specializes in producing and transporting ornamental plants, shared: "Before Tet, people who buy or rent apricot flowers call me to transport them to their homes to play during Tet, and after Tet, they call me to transport them back. Like that, I have transported for many people, including acquaintances..."

After Tet, the yellow apricot pots are taken back to their garden in Binh Thuan province to be taken care of and welcomed the next spring.

In addition to Mr. Hung, many other vehicle owners have been transporting potted mai trees to Ham Hiep mai village or to facilities that grow, care for and rent mai trees for Tet.

Before Tet, players bought, rented from gardeners or received gifts, donations, or loans from friends and relatives. After Tet, they rented a vehicle to transport them back to the garden for growers to take care of and use again the following year.

Buying or renting yellow apricot trees or pots and then sending them back to the place of production for care is not new and has been around for years.

This year, there are more people who like to rent apricot trees for Tet. Explaining this, many people think that buying apricot branches or apricot trees planted in pots is risky; potted apricot trees are expensive, and after Tet, if you don't have the conditions to take care of them, it's a waste. Renting a apricot tree from 1.5 to 5 million VND depending on the size of the pot, is safer and more suitable for the family's economic conditions.

This is not only shared by yellow apricot players but also by gardeners with many years of experience growing apricot trees. Mr. Nguyen Dang Chau (70 years old in Dai Loc village, Ham Hiep) has been attached to apricot trees for many years and said: Thanks to the application of scientific and technical advances, Tet apricot trees are no longer scarce, the price is not high, the flowers are beautiful, blooming right on Tet. But after buying them for Tet, if there are no conditions to take care of them, and the next Tet, buying another apricot tree is a waste, so many people rent apricot trees to play with.

Many apricot gardens in Ham Hiep have met that demand of consumers. They sell and rent all kinds of apricot trees, and at this time, they are collecting apricot trees for rent and care. There are gardeners who not only take care of their own apricot trees but also take care of apricot trees consigned by customers.

Mr. Khiem trims and removes the yellow apricot flowers and buds from the yellow apricot trees he brought back to his garden after Tet.

Each person has a different way of taking care of the tree. For Mr. Tran Chau Khiem in Phu Dien village, after the player brings the apricot tree back, he cuts off the flowers and buds, nourishes the tree to make it healthy... then fertilizes, medicines, and takes care of it again from the beginning.

However, taking care of and shaping apricot trees is not simple. In addition to experience and knowledge, one must also have an aesthetic eye, so not every apricot garden has many tenants.

“People who rent, borrow or buy mai trees to play with usually rely on acquaintances. After playing Tet, they return the tree and the lessor takes care of it. The following Tet, the player comes back to rent it. If the mai tree rented for Tet last year is not guaranteed, they can choose another tree…”, Mr. Khiem shared.

Ham Hiep apricot village in particular and ornamental plant growing and care facilities in the province in general are making efforts to invest and develop apricot gardens to meet consumer demand during Tet.

Ms. Le Thi Ngoc Oanh - President of the Farmers' Association of Ham Hiep commune said that apricot is one of the main crops of the commune. In recent years, some households have abandoned dragon fruit and switched to growing apricot.

Therefore, the area of dragon fruit is increasingly narrowing, but the area of apricot is expanding. After Tet, gardeners focus on taking care of apricot trees, especially potted apricot trees after renting them out.
