Geoffray Durbant's contract with Laval FC expired today (June 30). The French team did not retain the player born in 1992 and he has not had a new destination since leaving the club.
The striker born in 1992 has Vietnamese grandparents. Therefore, he is eligible to play in the V-League 2023 as a "player of Vietnamese origin". However, Geoffray Durbant is not sought after by Vietnamese clubs like Filip Nguyen. He has not received any official offer from the V-League.
Striker Geoffray Durbant
At the beginning of the season, there were many rumors on social media that Hanoi Police Club was interested in Geoffray Durbant. However, in reality, this deal never happened. Hanoi Police Club reserved the overseas Vietnamese slot for Patrik Le Giang in the first leg and Filip Nguyen in the second leg.
As of now, the international transfer news site Transfermakt values Geoffray Durbant at 500,000 euros (equivalent to about 12 billion VND). Geoffray Durbant has scored 4 goals and provided 5 assists for his teammates in Ligue 2, but the two sides have still not been able to reach an agreement to extend his contract.
Compared to himself last season, Durbant has declined quite a bit. He scored 19 goals and had 2 assists in Championnat National, helping Laval FC to be promoted to Ligue 2. Despite struggling and facing many difficulties, Laval FC finally stayed in Ligue 2 with Pau FC.
In addition to Durbant, Ligue 2 season 2022/23 has another Vietnamese-American player, Jason Pendant (Vietnamese name Quang Vinh). This defender plays for Quevilly Rouen, and used to play for the French U18 team.
