The suspect, 38, stabbed two police officers at the scene, police told reporters. They added that one of the officers then shot and killed him.
Police said the suspect had been previously arrested for a domestic violence incident. The two injured officers were taken to hospital and are expected to recover.
Police said the four people stabbed to death included a 12-year-old boy, an 11-year-old girl, a 44-year-old woman and a man in his 30s. The 11-year-old was found in the front of the house, while the other three bodies were found in the bedroom, police added.
A fifth person, a 61-year-old woman, was also stabbed and is in critical condition in hospital. Police said the suspect set fire to a couch in the home’s living room, forcing police to wait for firefighters to arrive before entering the home.
