Proposal to further facilitate Vietnamese goods exported to Canada

On September 6, on the occasion of attending the 43rd ASEAN Summit and related conferences in Jakarta, Indonesia, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

At the meeting, the two leaders expressed their delight at witnessing the increasingly deep and effective development of the Vietnam-Canada Comprehensive Partnership.

The Canadian Prime Minister expressed his impression of Vietnam’s development achievements; he commented that the bilateral relations, especially in the economic and trade fields, have achieved many positive developments after the two countries signed the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Canada will send a business delegation led by the Minister of Trade to Vietnam in 2024 to explore business and investment opportunities; at the same time, affirmed its readiness to support Vietnam in implementing commitments related to labor and environment in the CPTPP.

The two sides also agreed to strengthen coordination at multilateral forums, including the implementation of the ASEAN-Canada Strategic Partnership framework and international commitments related to climate change response.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to Canada's role in foreign policy; suggested that the two countries increase the exchange of high-level delegations, especially in 2023, marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and looked forward to welcoming Prime Minister Trudeau to visit Vietnam soon.

The Prime Minister also hoped that Canada would create more favorable conditions for Vietnamese goods to be exported to Canada; promote cooperation in new areas, including digital transformation, green growth, climate change response, science and technology; grant more scholarships to Vietnamese students, and enhance tourism cooperation and people-to-people exchange.

Also on September 6, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his delight at the rapid and substantive developments in Vietnam-Korea relations since the two countries upgraded their relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (December 2022); once again congratulated the success of President Yoon Suk Yeol's State visit to Vietnam last June, which left many deep impressions on Vietnamese leaders and people.

President Yoon Suk Yeol affirmed that Vietnam is a key partner of the Republic of Korea in implementing the Indo-Pacific Strategy; sincerely thanked the Vietnamese leaders and people for their warm and respectful reception of the delegation during their recent visit to Vietnam; highly appreciated the close coordination between the two sides to implement the results of the recent visit to Vietnam, including the Action Program to implement the Vietnam-Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The President thanked the Vietnamese Government for its attention and favorable conditions for Korean enterprises to do business and invest in Vietnam.

The two leaders agreed to increase the exchange of delegations at all levels; make efforts to further promote trade, investment and education cooperation; and affirm that they will continue to closely coordinate to develop the Vietnam-Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership deeper and more comprehensively, contributing positively to peace, stability and development in the region and the world.
