On January 1, 2024, AVP reported that at around 6:00 p.m. on December 30, a Su-35S fighter jet of the Russian Aerospace Forces carried out an airstrike on the Shkolny airport area in Odessa using an X-59 Gadfly missile. The “Southern” operational command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the attack. The ministry said that an industrial production enterprise was attacked but did not disclose further details.

The Telegram channel “Informant” analyzed the information and found that a lot of activity has been taking place at the Shkolny airport since the fall of 2023. It is believed that shelters have been erected in the airport area to store air defense systems. Satellite images also show the presence of two unidentified objects at the shelter.

Experts also noticed similarities between the massive architectural structures at Shkolny airport and the Patriot air defense system deployment area at Zhulyany airport near Kiev. Therefore, experts believe that the Patriot air defense system may be deployed in Odessa.

AVP also reported on another Russian attack on a Ukrainian military airport. On the evening of January 1, 2024, Russian Geranium drones carried out attacks on various targets in Ukraine. One of the main targets was the Starokonstantinov airport in the Khmelnitsky region.

In addition to Starokonstantinov, explosions were also reported in the Kyiv region.

Air raid sirens have been heard across Ukraine, signaling a tense military situation. In addition to the attacks in the Kyiv region, attacks on several Ukrainian Armed Forces positions in the Marinka region, including Georgievka, Maksimilyanovka and Kurakhovo, have also been reported. This indicates that military activity is being intensified in the region.

On the evening of January 1, 2024, TASS also reported that Russian air defense systems shot down many weapons of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that Russian air defense systems shot down a Ukrainian Su-27 on December 31, 2023. In addition, Russia intercepted 16 HIMARS missiles and 6 Uragan missiles, destroying 46 Ukrainian drones.
