Educational institutions respond to heat

The dispatch stated: Recently, in the Northern and Central provinces from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen, there has been a prolonged heat wave, with some areas experiencing outdoor temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius. According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the next few days, the weather will continue to be hot and extremely hot, with some places experiencing particularly severe heat, affecting people's production activities and educational activities at educational institutions.

According to the school year time frame decision of the Ministry of Education and Training, at this time, educational institutions nationwide are preparing to complete the 2022-2023 school year; especially for students in grades 9 and 12, they are focusing on reviewing and preparing for the entrance exam to grade 10 of high school and the high school graduation exam in 2023.

To ensure the safety of staff, teachers and students performing their learning tasks and organizing educational activities at educational institutions, the Minister of Education and Training requested the Directors of the Departments of Education and Training of provinces and centrally-run cities to direct educational institutions to proactively adjust the school's educational plans and arrange reasonable timetables; in which priority is given to arranging the early morning time frame to organize teaching of subjects and outdoor educational activities to ensure the safety of teachers and students.

In particular, do not arrange for students to participate in educational activities or extracurricular activities during times of intense heat.

At the same time, educational institutions should organize inspection, repair, supplement, and replace broken electrical equipment in classrooms such as electric fans, air conditioners, and ventilation fans; increase sun protection in classrooms at noon or in the afternoon; open windows for ventilation if the outside temperature is equal to or lower than in the classroom; and increase drinking water to ensure hygiene and safety for teachers and students in classrooms.

In addition, educational institutions coordinate with the electricity sector to provide adequate and timely electricity to schools, especially kindergartens and primary schools with boarding and semi-boarding students; coordinate with the health sector to organize propaganda and education for students on protecting and taking care of their own health, ensuring proper nutrition and preventing epidemics during hot days.

In addition, educational institutions should promote propaganda and education to raise awareness among staff, teachers and students about saving electricity; turning off lights and unnecessary devices; coordinating with parents, authorities and local organizations in managing and educating students about drowning prevention, especially in places with potential drowning risks.
