Alpha Economy exclusively reported that Jungkook's solo song "Seven" (BTS) featuring American rapper Latto is facing plagiarism accusations.

Specifically, music producer Yang Joon Young claimed that Jungkook's song "Seven" plagiarized the song "Time of Mask" he produced in 2000 for the girl group Fin.KL.

Song

"Seven" is the debut single by Jungkook (BTS).

According to the music producer, the song “Seven” “borrowed” the main melody of the song “Time of Mask”, which was released by Fin.KL as a B-side song (a side track in an album) in the group’s album “Special”.

The song “Seven” was composed and produced by Andrew Watt, Jon Bellion, Henry Walter, Theron Makiel Thomas, and rapper Latto. Currently, songwriter Yang Joon Young has sent documents including digital music and soundboards to one of the main music producers Hybe Labels (BTS' management company) to request an explanation.

According to Koreaboo, recently, BTS's management company officially responded through media outlet Star News.

The agency asserted that the allegations that Jungkook's "Seven" was plagiarized are false. "The song 'Seven' was made through the collaboration of five international music producers and has nothing to do with the song in the domestic album from 23 years ago," BTS' representative emphasized.

Song

The song “Seven” was accused of plagiarizing the song “Time of Mask” in the album of the group Fin.KL released in 2000.

The company also said the allegations were one-sided and the song did not meet any of the criteria used to assess plagiarism.

“Seven” is Jungkook’s debut single, released on July 14. Immediately after its release, the song quickly became famous and became a beloved hit, reaching the top of many prestigious music charts.

The track topped the Spotify Global Top 50 chart shortly after its release with over 15 million streams within 24 hours, becoming the most-streamed collaboration by a male artist on the first day of release.

In addition, the song also helped Jungkook become the first K-pop artist to reach number one on the US Spotify chart and also the first Korean solo artist to debut at number one globally.

After 10 days of release, “Seven” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and currently maintains its fifth consecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 chart.
