BVIS Hanoi applies the A-level program to help students easily demonstrate their abilities to many universities around the world when studying abroad.
A-level is a study program awarded by schools in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland for students aged 16 - 18 before entering university. Many international universities in the world such as the US, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Korea, Japan... have recognized this certificate.
The standard time to complete an IB Diploma programme is two years. For some programmes, students are required to complete six compulsory subjects, which must be from different subject groups, within this time. However, A-levels only require a maximum of three to four subjects.
"Reducing the number of compulsory subjects and exams helps students acquire more in-depth knowledge and develop their strengths. Thus, A-level is an ideal choice for those who have determined their future major and want to study abroad or study in-country," said a representative of BVIS Hanoi.
Currently, BVIS Hanoi is one of the international schools offering the largest number of A-level subjects in Vietnam (about 20 subjects). The school has an independent learning area for students studying the final two years of secondary school to prepare for graduation called the Sixth Form Center.

The building provides a modern, optimal environment for students to study, participate in extracurricular activities and have fun. In particular, the University Admissions Consulting area is located in the center of the building. The learning area is divided into many rooms, including: individual study rooms, group study rooms, quiet study rooms, dance rooms, drama practice rooms, music classrooms, open stages. In addition, the school also built a fitness and relaxation center including a cafe, pantry...
As a result, BVIS Hanoi students have achieved high results in A-level exams. For many years, 100% of A-level students here have successfully applied to universities. In the 2020-2021 school year, 45% of students achieved A*-A grades (the highest grade on the scale), a rate much higher than the achievement of native English speakers in the UK. In the most recent 2021-2022 school year, many students achieved A*-A grades and entered Oxford University (UK).
Ms. Lisa Shuttleworth-Brown - Deputy Head of Secondary said that although the number of A-level subjects is less, the knowledge required is deeper and more difficult than other international baccalaureate programs. This is an advantage that helps students focus on studying and developing their potential in target subjects. Many students at BVIS Hanoi have even been exempted from some subject credits when going to university because of their high achievements in the A-level exam.
In addition, students of the school also have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities such as volunteer programs in Tanzania; UNICEF Summit; global learning exchanges at Global Campus - an exclusive global school.
In parallel, BVIS Hanoi applies the Service Learning program - learning through community activities, requiring students to use theory to solve real-life problems in society. Thus, when studying A-level, students can develop soft skills, experience research projects to help build a more impressive personal profile.

However, according to Ms. Colleen Usher - University Admissions Consultant at BVIS Hanoi, students should learn about the basic differences between the International Baccalaureate programs. This will help them consider and choose the program that best suits their orientation.
On June 15, British Vietnamese International School BVIS Hanoi organized a seminar to introduce the "International A-level Program" . Here, international education experts and university admission consultants will share the basic differences between some currently recognized international baccalaureate programs; the application process to many universities around the world and internationally in Vietnam.
