The Board of Directors of the American International School Vietnam (AISVN) has just announced this and answered questions about the confirmation of completion of the school year program for students.

IB organization approves AISVN International School to end school year early

The AISVN International School Board of Directors has worked with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training and the school board this past week to discuss and coordinate solutions to the current situation.

"The board of directors has sought approval and received approval from the International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization and the school board, as well as consultation with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, to finalize the plan to end the current school year about a month early. This is to ensure the stability of the school community and the academic success of all students in the 2023-2024 school year," said a school representative.

According to school leaders, the plan is a proactive measure to ensure students successfully complete the school year amid current challenges.

“The school would like to stress that this plan has been carefully designed to minimise any potential disruption to your child's learning.

Teachers will plan to complete the remaining lessons in the final weeks of the school year, focusing on the most important skills and content to prepare students for the next school year.

Semester 2 report cards will be completed and updated on April 26.

Therefore, students from Discovery to Grade 11 will complete their studies on April 26. Grade 12 students will continue to attend school to take the IBDP exam as planned until May 17," the school added.

The school remains open in May and June.

The school also appealed to parents: "As our community continues to work together through this challenging time, the school remains committed to providing students with an effective education, while ensuring their physical and mental health and success now and in the future."

Responding to parents' questions about whether the school will continue to operate after ending the school year early, the school's leaders said that the school will remain open in May 2024 and June 2024 to support and welcome parents and students.

The school will also continue to update parents regularly when there is any official information about the restructuring process and long-term plans for the next school year and beyond.

Regarding the foreign teacher of AISVN International School sending an email to parents announcing his resignation this morning, April 15, the school board affirmed that this was only a case of the teacher sending a personal email, not the views of the school's teachers and staff.

Currently, the school is still closely coordinating with functional agencies and the city's interdisciplinary working group to prioritize solutions for students to go to school.

In addition, the interdisciplinary working group also recommended that the school thoroughly understand and call on teachers to share and accompany the school's current financial difficulties.

"It was a great effort for the school to finish the year."

Immediately after receiving this information, many parents wondered whether ending the school year a month early would ensure the necessary amount of knowledge for students.

While there are also parents who think that learning is a long-term process, whether they have enough or not enough knowledge is relative.

"The interdisciplinary team, the school board and many parents have made every effort so that the children can finish the school year as best they can. Still finishing the school year is a great effort. The scenario of ending the school year earlier than expected is a direction that I have also thought about because how much the children learn requires the joint efforts of parents, teachers, the school and the interdisciplinary team," a parent whose child is studying in grade 11 at the school shared.
