Education needs a "transformation" from within

On the morning of November 18, Hanoi National University coordinated with the Ministry of Education and Training to organize a meeting with representatives of teachers and education managers on the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20.

Minister Nguyen Kim Son said that the country's education and training have achieved many successes, but are still facing many major challenges.

“Perhaps the biggest challenge is from within, from within the process of educational innovation. That is the challenge of innovation, surpassing oneself, denying oneself as a transformation for development. Facing the era of national development, education needs a transformation from within, to move towards higher quality, towards an education that develops people comprehensively, creates good citizens and high-quality human resources. Innovation in education must change old habits, ways of thinking, ways of thinking and doing, overcome limits for breakthrough development,” said Mr. Son.

According to Mr. Son, to overcome these challenges, the education sector, especially the team of teachers, needs to make great efforts, be constantly creative and have accurate and correct solutions.

Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son shared at the meeting with representatives of teachers and education managers on the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20.

On the occasion of November 20, the Minister of Education and Training also had a few words to discuss with teachers. According to Mr. Son, education worldwide is facing challenges due to the explosion of knowledge, challenges of artificial intelligence, robots, the Internet of Things, big data, supercomputers, virtual schools, with new pedagogical methods and tools. The emergence of new factors makes many people question and doubt the existence of school education and the role of teachers in the future.

"We need to face the challenges, not avoid them, not be afraid. We stand firmly on the foundation of educational science and the courage of teachers to embrace the advantages of the times, to take advantage of the advantages, to develop faster. Artificial intelligence does not and cannot replace humans. The role of teachers cannot be replaced," said Mr. Son.

Mr. Son believes that the new education system will fail if it only focuses on providing knowledge, but it would be a mistake to completely abandon knowledge. It is necessary to equip students with basic knowledge so that they can use it as a tool for thinking, teaching them the ability to adapt and self-study to develop themselves in the future.

"Teachers need to turn limits into no limits"

Mr. Son believes that, facing new challenges, with an increasingly large and new mission for education, teachers in the new era also need to demonstrate their mettle, considering challenges as opportunities for the entire force to develop, for each teacher to become better.

“The greater the challenge, the more teachers need to return to stand firm, consolidate the core values of teachers to create a new class of intellectuals, a new team of teachers. Values from tradition such as “learning without getting bored, teaching without getting tired”, the spirit of tolerance, altruism, sacrifice, the great and profound love for humanity, the spirit of always renewing oneself, overcoming limits to guide learners, the spirit of daily renewal, self-study, self-adaptation to guide students.

The limits of teachers are the limits of education, the limits of education are the limits of a country's development. Teachers need to turn limits into limitless ones.

On the occasion of November 20, the Minister of Education and Training also had messages to send to students.

“It is you who have made the achievements of education and the success and growth of teachers. Without students, there would be nothing for teachers to do. In the new era, I hope you will study hard, be confident to express yourself, and study proactively and positively."

The head of the education sector advised: "In this era of freedom, democracy and equality, students do not need to be timid, small, fearful, or self-conscious in front of teachers, especially great teachers, but they also must not be "all in one", destroying the solemn tradition of the teacher-student relationship. Students need to be confident, self-reliant, self-reliant, self-reliant, actively express and assert themselves in their studies, but still have to be polite and respectful to teachers," said Mr. Son.

To date, the country has about 1.6 million teachers, including both public and private sectors, at all levels of education, including general education, university and vocational training. Currently, the teaching staff has over 6,000 professors and associate professors, with nearly 60,000 people holding doctoral degrees. Over 600 teachers have been awarded the title of People's Teacher and over 10,000 are excellent teachers.
