The Ministry of Transport has just sent an official dispatch to the People's Committee of Da Nang City; Vietnam Maritime Administration; and Da Nang Port Joint Stock Company regarding the addition of functions of wharfs 1, 2, and 3 of Tien Sa port area to be allowed to receive container ships.
Specifically, the Ministry of Transport approved the addition of wharfs No. 1 and 2 of Tien Sa port area to receive container ships, wharf No. 3 to receive ships up to 50,000 tons with reduced load as proposed by Da Nang Port Joint Stock Company and agreed by the People's Committee of Da Nang City and the Vietnam Maritime Administration.
The Ministry of Transport requested the People's Committee of Da Nang City to direct relevant agencies to closely coordinate with the Vietnam Maritime Administration to guide and supervise Da Nang Port Joint Stock Company to implement the next steps in accordance with the seaport planning, comply with legal regulations, ensure maritime safety, fire prevention and fighting, and environmental protection.
According to the Plan, Tien Sa port area is planned to include ports for container ships up to 4,000 TEU (50,000 tons), general cargo ships, bulk cargo ships up to 50,000 tons; international passenger ships up to 225,000 GT.
Danang Port Joint Stock Company is responsible for implementing the next steps to ensure compliance with the provisions of Decree 58/2017 of the Government detailing a number of articles of the Maritime Code on the management of maritime activities and relevant legal provisions; building port facilities and infrastructure to ensure full compliance with the conditions for container cargo exploitation with the agreed ship size.
The port owner must also base on the existing conditions of the Tien Sa waterway to develop a plan for ship mobilization and port exploitation to ensure the safety of the port; exploit the port's functions properly; not recommend the Ministry of Transport to invest in upgrading the Tien Sa waterway; take responsibility for the effectiveness of investment in port exploitation, ensure maritime safety and security, prevent fire and explosion, and prevent environmental pollution.
Tien Sa Port is required to accept the opinions of the People's Committee of Da Nang City in proactively developing a plan to gradually convert the function of Tien Sa wharf area into a tourist port according to the orientation of the Master Plan of Vietnam's seaport system for the period 2021-2030.
According to the Master Plan for Vietnam's seaport system for the period 2021-2030, Tien Sa port area is planned to include ports for container ships up to 4,000 TEU (50,000 tons), general cargo ships, bulk cargo ships up to 50,000 tons; international passenger ships up to 225,000 GT.
Therefore, the request of Da Nang Port Joint Stock Company to allow wharfs No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 of Tien Sa Port to receive container ships is in accordance with the approved seaport planning orientation .
