The tiny house consisting of two separate blocks, located in front of a building in lane 102 Truong Chinh (Dong Da), has made many people curious. This is the remaining area after the government reclaimed the land to widen the road.

Recently, many people passing through the area of lane 102 Truong Chinh (Phuong Mai ward, Dong Da district, Hanoi) were very curious about the two super thin houses located in front of the MC HH1 apartment building. According to Dan Tri reporter's investigation, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ky (69 years old) and his son currently live in the above house.

Mr. Ky said that previously the total land area that his family used was more than 63 square meters , but then the local government reclaimed 54 square meters to expand alley 102 Truong Chinh. "My family has 3 father and children, previously living in a level 4 house, but from July 2023, the house is only 9.2 square meters because it was reclaimed to expand the road. Because the house is narrow, the second daughter has to rent a room outside," Mr. Ky shared.

In the photo are the "2 pieces" of Mr. Ky's house left after the demolition. The large plot of land is about 8m2 from the main house, the small plot is only 1.2m2 left from the old toilet facility located separately from the house. In 2004, the Hanoi People's Committee approved the project to expand alley 102 Truong Chinh to facilitate the movement from Luong Dinh Cua street to Truong Chinh street. After many years of delays due to problems in site clearance, the project will not be completed until 2023.

In a room of about 8 square meters , Mr. Ky filled it with furniture such as tables, chairs, bowls, chopsticks, machine repair tools... Sitting pensively in the middle of the super thin house, he confided that after joining the army, in 1987, he started working at the Hanoi Agricultural Mechanical Factory 1, now renamed MCG Energy and Real Estate Joint Stock Company. After working for a while, he asked the factory for housing to stabilize his life but received a notice that there was no more space. In 1991, Mr. Ky was allocated a piece of land in lane 102 Truong Chinh by the Hanoi Agricultural Mechanical Factory 1 for him to use. After that, he and his wife built a level four house to live in.

"In 1999, my wife unfortunately passed away in an accident. Since then, I have been raising two children alone. The life of the three of us has been difficult. I only know how to try to make money to take care of my children, not thinking about the legal procedures for the land I use. After that, the government announced that the land was part of the expansion plan for Lane 102 Truong Chinh and was part of the apartment building, so I was very surprised," Mr. Ky shared.

After having a plan to reclaim an area of 54 square meters of land to expand lane 102 Truong Chinh Street, in 2021, Dong Da District People's Committee had a plan to compensate, support and resettle the family. Accordingly, his family was supported with a resettlement apartment worth more than 1.2 billion VND. After deducting the 68 million VND supported and compensated amount, Mr. Ky had to pay an additional 1.15 billion VND to receive the above resettlement apartment. Because the amount of money spent was too large, beyond his ability, he did not agree to receive the resettlement house. Mr. Ky said that the compensation amount of 68 million VND was too low, not true to the actual price, so he did not receive it. After that, he filed a complaint to the Hanoi People's Court to claim rights and benefits for his family.

Although it is called a house, the remaining area after the clearance is extremely thin, only about 8 square meters , the first floor space is extremely narrow, Mr. Ky uses it as a place to cook and repair machinery. Due to the small, narrow space, life for him and his son is very difficult. "Every time moving from the first floor to the second floor is extremely difficult because the stairs are vertical, the father and son sometimes have no place to avoid each other, eating and living are also very inconvenient because it is too narrow", Mr. Ky lamented.

The staircase to the second floor, where Mr. Ky and his father sleep and rest, is about 40cm wide. The stairs are vertical, so it is difficult to move around.

The second floor space includes a bed about 2.2m wide for father and son to sleep, next to it is a desktop computer where the son works. Although he is nearly 70 years old, to make ends meet, Mr. Ky still repairs machines at home during the day and works as a security guard at night.

On the second floor there is a corner bathroom, just enough for 1 person to stand, shower and wash...

Inside the super-thin house, there is a mezzanine that can be used as a storage room and to dry clothes. "I am a soldier who has changed careers and is a mechanical engineer at Hanoi Agricultural Mechanical Factory 1. In 1991, while I was in difficult circumstances and had no place to live, the factory did not have a house to provide, so they allowed me to build a 16m2 house on the old land of the factory. After being allowed to build, I built a 16m2 house in the surrounding land with a total area of 63.3m2 and my family has been using it stably and continuously for residential purposes. According to the law, my family is eligible to be granted a certificate of land use rights, house ownership rights and other assets attached to the land for the entire area of 63.3m2 of land and the house on the land," said Mr. Ky.

About 5m from his current house, Mr. Ky is also using another super-thin house less than 2m2. He said that he initially planned to renovate this place into a toilet but then converted it into a storage place because the area was too small. "This warehouse used to be a toilet, located separately from the house. After being confiscated, it became 2 super-thin houses," Mr. Ky explained and expressed his indignation that in addition to the land area of more than 50m2 confiscated to widen the road, the remaining area is owned by the apartment owner. Mr. Ky expressed his hope that the investor of the apartment building and the local government need to have a suitable compensation plan for his family to soon stabilize their lives. "Now that I am old and have economic difficulties, I am only supported with more than 68 million VND, which is too unfair and disadvantageous," Mr. Ky said.

The leader of Phuong Mai Ward People's Committee said that in the process of expanding Lane 102 Truong Chinh, 54m2 of land used by Mr. Ky's family was reclaimed and more than 68 million VND was supported, but Mr. Ky has not received it yet. The local leader also said that the remaining land area is not on the sidewalk but is entirely on the land area of the apartment building in Lane 102 Truong Chinh. He hopes that the investor of the apartment building and Mr. Ky will soon find a common voice on the remaining land area, and have a suitable compensation and support plan. According to Decision No. 3979 dated December 6, 2021 of Dong Da District People's Committee (Hanoi) on the reclamation of 54m2 of land from Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ky's family, the reason for the reclamation is to implement the project to expand Luong Dinh Cua Street to Truong Chinh Street.
