In Ban Cam commune (Bao Thang district), residents have voluntarily donated thousands of square meters of land to open roads, making trade and travel more convenient.

When the local authorities decided to expand the main road in Nam Tang village, Ms. Hoang Thi Luu was the first person in the village to voluntarily donate her family's land for the road widening project. Ms. Luu said: "My family is willing to cut down the fruit trees, corn, and cassava we have planted to provide a clear area for road construction. Expanding the road will not only help people travel more easily, but my family will also benefit."

Mrs. Luu's family donated land twice, totaling over 300 square meters, along with many crops on the land, worth nearly 100 million VND. Her family also actively participated with other villagers in clearing the land and pouring concrete, helping to complete the road project early. Their generosity and willingness to invest have inspired and spread the rural road construction movement throughout the villages of Ban Cam. Many main village and inter-village roads have been simultaneously widened.

According to Ly Van Thanh, head of Nam Tang village: From 2022 to the present, the village has expanded and concreted 6.8 km of main village roads and roads leading to production areas; 81 households on both sides of the road have voluntarily donated 10,000 m2 of residential and production land.

Having achieved the status of a "new rural commune" for over four years, and aiming to become an "advanced new rural commune" by 2025, Ban Cam still has many criteria to meet. Expanding and upgrading transportation routes to meet new standards has been identified as a key task by the local authorities. To implement this, the commune prioritizes roads leading to areas producing commercial agricultural products , such as banana and pineapple growing regions. The ease of transporting agricultural products by trucks and the stable selling prices are clear benefits of expanding rural roads, thereby fostering greater consensus among the people.

According to Mr. Dao Van Tuan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ban Cam commune: The voluntary land donation by the people has created a great impetus for the locality to develop the rural transportation network. From 2022 to the present, the commune has renovated and upgraded more than 11 km of main village roads; more than 120 households have donated land with an area of more than 12,000 m2 and more than 500 days of labor. Currently, 70% of the main village roads have been renovated with a road surface width of 6 meters or more.

The wide, well-maintained roads not only facilitate convenient travel for the people but also open up opportunities for economic development and improve the material and spiritual lives of the people. This is also clear evidence of the solidarity and unity of the local people in building a new rural area.
