Focus on improving the quality of tourism
Favored by nature with many beautiful and pristine beaches, Binh Thuan province has been a famous tourist destination for many years, attracting a large number of domestic and international tourists to visit and relax. In the past 3 quarters, the whole province of Binh Thuan welcomed more than 7.3 million visitors, an increase of 11.42% over the same period last year, of which international visitors were about 293,000, an increase of 53% over the same period (accounting for a large proportion of visitors from Korea, China, Russia, Germany, England, the United States, etc.). This result contributes to promoting a strong shift in economic structure, promoting the development of other economic sectors, creating more jobs, increasing income for people, contributing to preserving and promoting the unique values of historical and cultural relics and natural resources.
To promote and effectively exploit the potentials and strengths of Binh Thuan tourism, the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee have directed the synchronous implementation of many solutions. In particular, calling for strategic investors with brands, reputation, capacity and experience to invest in large-scale projects, tourism complex projects, high-class green - clean - beautiful resorts associated with entertainment, recreation, trade and tourism services.
However, experts also warn of the limitations and problems of developing Binh Thuan tourism in the "old tradition" and environmental problems with ineffective waste management and the current situation of flies arising around tourist facilities affecting the tourist experience.
Implement many measures to improve the tourism environment
Known as the “Resort Paradise”, Binh Thuan has a place on the international tourism map, but the tourism industry is currently facing a situation of flies arising during the rainy season. The fact that flies are rampant in a large area, which has been an important tourist area of the province for a long time, not only makes tourists lose sympathy but also creates an opportunity for other epidemics to occur.
The coastal communes of Ham Thuan Nam district are areas specializing in dragon fruit cultivation but are also areas with concentrated tourist facilities. In particular, Thuan Quy commune borders Phan Thiet city, next to NovaWorld Phan Thiet urban area and has about 20 other tourist facilities distributed along the coast in the area, so it is also the place where this situation is most evident. When cultivating dragon fruit, local people not only use raw chicken manure but also treated chicken manure, which according to households still produces flies during the production process, especially during the rainy season. From there, they fly to the neighboring areas of tourist facilities, regardless of the sea breeze.
Binh Thuan province promotes training for people to use organic fertilizers in safe dragon fruit cultivation.
Tourist facilities, specifically NovaWorld Phan Thiet, have regularly sprayed to control flies but have not completely resolved this situation. Recently, the investor of NovaWorld Phan Thiet has coordinated with the research team of the University of Natural Resources and Environment to carry out a pilot project on the method of using microorganisms to spray on dragon fruit gardens to limit flies and handle odors caused by untreated chicken manure in Tien Thanh commune. Delta - Valley Binh Thuan Co., Ltd., the investor of NovaWorld Phan Thiet, presented the above project to representatives of relevant departments and Phan Thiet city to find the best solution for the tourism environment as well as for safe dragon fruit cultivation in the surrounding area.
Phan Thiet City People's Committee acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of Delta - Valley Binh Thuan Company Limited and the research team of the University of Natural Resources and Environment in providing solutions to protect the environment, improve the lives and health of the community and the experience of tourists visiting and relaxing in the area. This is also a solution that the Enterprise is working with the province to help dragon fruit producers understand the use of organic fertilizers in VietGAP production towards green, sustainable, and environmentally friendly agriculture that does not pollute the surrounding environment, especially in areas near tourist attractions, thereby promoting green and sustainable tourism.
The provincial Agricultural Extension Center organized a training course on the use of organic fertilizers in VietGAP production for households directly producing dragon fruit in Ham Minh and Thuan Quy communes.
In September 2024, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center organized a training course on the use of organic fertilizers in VietGAP production for households directly producing dragon fruit in Ham Minh and Thuan Quy communes. However, according to the leaders of the People's Committees of these two communes, the application of the requirements in the training content is difficult in reality. That is, households cultivating several hundred dragon fruit pillars find it difficult to have a systematic way of composting chicken manure like large farms. In addition, limiting chicken manure and increasing the amount of cow manure is also difficult. Because there is currently little cow manure and not enough supply, it will push up the selling price, and dragon fruit growers cannot use it.
The leader of Thuan Quy Commune People's Committee said that in the coming time, they will continue to advise people to be aware of using organic fertilizers and dry fertilizers to limit flies. At the same time, they will take advantage of the test results from the University of Natural Resources and Environment. Meanwhile, the leader of Ham Minh Commune People's Committee is considering a chain linkage model to control proper and reasonable fertilization to protect the common environment and also contribute to export, when the dragon fruit fly situation is happening.
In the coming time, Binh Thuan tourism will always focus on improving its competitiveness with other coastal localities to develop unique tourism products aimed at protecting the environment to retain tourists./.
